And I’ll never do it again either! What a pain in the rear, literally; my ass hurts from laying and rolling around on concrete. So does my back, shoulders, hips and every other appendage involved. Had to grind the overhanging areas of the pinch weld to clear. After touching up the ground areas I proceeded with the install, I’ll tell you don’t even attempt it without a right angle drill. There’s no chance in hell your drilling those holes without one! Even then there’s on one rivet on the right front bracket that didn’t get installed. Told the wife it’s on her side and she said “oh great!”, said don’t worry at your wet weight of 105 it’s not an issue. She wasn’t amused to say the least.

So how did it all go? Well there’s a few issues. The power ground strap is supposed to attach to the body ground bolt. Nope, terminal ring is way too small; grounded to the battery for now until I change the ring. The instructions show the wrong rubber grommet to pass into the cab. Luckily I watched a video so I knew where to go. Speaking of instructions they’re vague so watch the vid. The stay down feature isn’t working nor is the blocking obstruction feature, placed a roll of paper towels between the step and cab and closed the door. It crushed the crap outta that roll! gotta call AMP on these. And lastly because I like things to look clean the plug-n-play module hanging below the dash is killing me, but I’ll get over it.

So there it is. They work fantastic, disappear when up and make it easier to get in. No more lowering to entry/exit height.

I had same issue with having to grind and paint the edge of the pinch welds .Haven't tried the stay down or obstruction features yet. I did drill the holes in the neg ground strap bigger with a drill bit.

I had mine installed by the shop. Mine are the older non p-n-p models, and after watching a couple videos, I know I didn't have the tools or patience to do it myself. It took longer than expected, and the shop tech said it was the last time he charged so little for install. Apparently it was tougher than he thought too. Still, glad I had them do it, and I couldn't be happier with the steps.

I had a shop install mine, no grinding on my pinch welds at all, they had it completed on time. They install a lot of these though

I installed mine myself. Yes, you'll need a right-angle drill. Yes, there is a lot of laying on the garage floor. I didn't have to grind or bend any of the pinch weld or make any adjustments other than jump on them a time or two before final tightening. I also found the ring terminal too small, but simply changed it out. I'm also as OCD as it comes for wiring, but don't have any issues with the P-n-P setup.

~3 years now and haven't had any issues with the stay-down or the blocking-obstruction feature.

Yeah i tried the jumping. Tried loosening the lower bolts and jumping, no go. The end caps hit front and rear due to the inner pinch weld layer hanging a half inch lower that the outside one. Didn't have the right size ring terminal so I'll fix that later. Also didn't put the lights on yet as I want to paint the housings to match so they don't stand out against the silver paint.

Have to reply on this.

When installed correctly you do not need to grind anything!!!!

My install was time consuming but not hard, I got luck and had all the pem nuts from the factory. I also skipped drilling or installing the rivets and many on here have said they are not really needed.

To make the install easy where there is no grinding needed, install the steps with out the motor, then with the steps down bounce/jump on them to set the linkage!

You may need to do this a couple times to set them, then install the motors once you get them to clear (they will clear!!!).

Mine would not clear until I bounced on them, once I bounce a few times everything cleared perfectly.

I’ll call bs to that statement, sorry. They were installed correctly exactly per the instructions as dictated. The pinch weld on mine was totally uneven in multiple spots and the end caps hit on both ends on both sides. But to make sure I DID install without motors first as there many documented cases of Rams with this issue. That way I could check fit and sure as hell they hit. I did bounce heavily, but if you actually read the instructions it says in BOLD to not jump on them. Not wanting to be the ******* that does and then breaks something I didn’t. The upside is the pinch weld region looks way better than it did.

I’ll try to get one. It was mostly each end where the end caps are. The inner skin hung down as much as a half in beyond the outer skin so they would hang up.

Not trying to get into a ******* match here.

Mine did not clear at the end caps either, and yes my 250lb ass had to hop/jump in some places to get them to clear.....and nothing broke.

I did the hop/jump a few time and got everything to clear with no grinding....and there are many others on here that have also had to jump on them to get the linkages to set right.

If you are happy with how yours came out and were ok with grinding your truck more power to you.

There was no way in hell I was going to grind my truck, especially in the salt belt.

Before mine were installed, I did a good bit of research. Apparently Ram's pinch weld quality isn't great. A lot of people had to cut/grind the pinch welds, some didn't. Mine had no issues.

I also followed the instructions to a T and did the bounce technique. It didn't work. The 3 layer of the pinch weld on the inside hit both end caps. I marked and ground it away making it even with the other 2 layers, and then hit it with some touch up paint. The pinch welds look nice and even now. They were far from it before hand. Maybe some Rams welds are better than others with less overhang.
