Installing an electrical outlet

I understand the place you plug a cig lighter in is called a '12 Volt Plug'. I want to be able to plug a laptop in, the same as I would in my house, into a three prong outlet. How might I do that? Since that would not be called a '12 Volt' Plug' What is it called?

If you want to plug your laptop in your vehicle, you need a 120V inverter.
Depending on the wattage of the laptop power supply, there are 120V inverters that plug into a 12V power outlet/cigarette lighter.
I have a 150 watt 120V inverter for my work van that I plug my laptop into.
Look on the laptop power supply, there should be a wattage rating on the nameplate, you'll need an inverter that rated for more wattage than the laptop power supply.

As others have posted, go with an aftermarket 12VDC inverter and use the cigarette lighter or on the higher spec units it comes stock from the factory with in 120VAC outlet in the front of the centre consul as in my 2020 Longhorn as well as one in the drivers side Ram Box.

My old 2013 2013 Longhorn had one in the dash to the lower RH.

is your laptop charger too much draw for the 120V outlet that comes on the truck? the one on my '19 laramie works for my hp laptop.

I would also suggest getting a "pure sine" wave power inverter. A normal inverter is fine for most things but on something expensive like a laptop, you should at least read up on pure sine wave inverters to see if that is something that you need. It adds a little cost but is worth it IMO.
