It’s a sad Ram story…

I bought a 2015 Ram. Tradesman in excellent condition with only 62K miles. Insurance on it is incredibly expensive & I was told that it’s ALWAYS higher for Dodge trucks. Sounds suspicious but that’s what I was told. I’ve been paying for liability insurance on a 1998 Ram 1500 for years but never realized. The full coverage on my newly purchased Ram Tradesman is more than $3,500 / year! Does this sound right to y’all?

Sounds high. I have full plus collision and amounts for coverage maxed out and I am near 3K. But I do have a 19 and top coverages on everything.
Collision, full coverage, non insured, underinsured etc etc

I am in TX also and insurance when U carry max coverage and collision maxed out is stupid expensive.

Here in Ontario Canada, I pay just over $2200 CDN for full coverage on a 2012 Ram and a 2017 Grand Caravan. I thought that I was paying a lot because the Ram doesn't go far these days but then again, neither does the G C.

It pays to check out other insurance companies every couple of years. I've had one company now for 13 years and every year our rates kept getting higher and higher with no accidents or tickets for the wife and I. Anyways I got a letter from AAA about car insurance so for sh!ts and giggles I checked it out. Our current insurance was around $2200 a year for my 16 the wife's suv and my work car which just has liability. Got a quote back with the same coverage and it was was almost half the price. Around $1200 for the year. So I called my insurance company and told them we were going to switch. Lady says let me run some numbers and I'll get back to you by the end of the day. She called back a couple hours later and low and behold, same coverage, $11xx for the year.

It's all a game but it does pay to call around and keep whoever you're using honest.

OMG for my 2022 2500 HD 4x4 along with the wife's new 2025 Rav 4 I pay just over $2200 year and I have full coverage with 250 deductible an 500K/500K liability & underinsured, IMO your getting hosed unless you have a really bad driving record, live in the wrong zip code or under 25 yoa...

Pretty much the same story here but different companies.

We were with Safeco (owned by Liberty Mutual) for years, with only very slight increases in premiums. We had 2 Autos, Home, and a $1M Umbrella policy.
Last year all premiums jumped by a lot, maybe 30-40%.

I started calling and asking around, ended up with a broker who recommended Erie Insurance.

We were able to add coverage, increase our coverage, and double the Umbrella, and ended up with premiums that were HALF the renewal cost of our old company.

I'm now paying $537/year for the 2014 Ram, $1081/year total for both cars. Safeco wanted just over $2000/year.

None of these details should matter to you, there are too many variables, but the idea is to show what you might gain when you shop around. You never know until you give it a shot.

This is way out of bounds, you got some points on your license?

I insured a ram and a rav 4 for 15 years, both almost the same. It was 1200 for both and over 15 years slowly hit 1500, and now it is a little higher one year bad raise. But nothing close to you, and I have max coverage. We aren't getting the full story here.

Insurance varies so much person to person, zip code to zip code, provider to provider that the only useful advice is to shop every major provider and see who has the best price *for you* and to repeat the process every 18-24 months. Don't be afraid to swap providers, they won't be afraid to drop you if it's what's best for them.

Commonly stolen vehicles in your zip code is a big influence on pricing, though.

"Insurance is another form of legalized gambling ... an gamble on something that may or may not ever happen to whatever your trying to protect at the mercy of whatever insurance provider is going to charge for their coverage services". (quote to me from my dad many years ago when I would go into the "hate mode" from the never ending increases on my every 6 months premiums notices).

I've not had the same insurance provider since those early days, as I shop around finding similar coverage and move on when they start their rate increase crapolla ... "Like a Good Neighbor, State Farm Is There", or "Your In Good Hands At AllState", lol.

WHERE you are in Texas matters a lot. If you’re in Harris County…or DAllas/FtWorth…San Antone….or Harlengen/McAllen (theft risk)….sounds as if you might be)…then that’s not too far different than what my bro-in-law pays for his 2016 in Katy area.

I had a 2012 Tradesman in a rural, central Tx county… full coverage w/$1K deductible (and $100K Liability…not the Tx-minimum $25K) was $1600/yr…. and my wife and I had 3 wrecks in 5 years and a full hail-damage event previous to add to the risk. State Farm.

I do have kids under 25 but I’m still convinced they are bending us over the barrel on this 2015 addition to our policy b/c we all have clean records. It doesn’t make sense. Thanks

I can't say whether $3500/year is right, but I will say that their excuse about Dodge trucks being more expensive to insure is absolutely a lie. Did you hit them back with the fact that Dodge hasn't built full size trucks since 2009? :D
