Why would you decline to have uninsured/underinsured coverage? Do you not know that if you were to get in a wreck with a person who only had state minimum coverage or no insurance coverage you could/would be screwed royal by not having that coverage?
Ignore my last 'scam' response. You've got me researching UM/UIM coverage again. I remembered turning down PIP, so I am at risk for a passenger. Thanks for the wakeup... I'll contact my agent and discuss coverage limits that fit under my Umbrella policy.

I am shocked by the number of people who don't carry much more then state minimum and who are also home owners who by not having high liability coverage run the risk of being sued if involved in a really bad accident. The reason I am one for high coverage is my kid was involved in a 5 are pileup with a person who caused it only had 100K coverage and here my kid suffered a brain injury who had to fight not only his insurance company to cover her medical bills but she even had to sue here own insurance carrier to help with some of the care she will need for life, needless to say she got screwed all because the drive that caused the wreck had low liability coverage and she her self had low underinsured coverage, a person my get by for life an never have a bad accident but why risk it if your in one for a hundred or so dollars a year...

Anybody that does not carry enuf coverage especially for underinsured/uninsured may be rolling the dice. I maintain the top that can be purchased as per PUC for insurance in TX. SO Yes, my insurance for 1 vehicle is over $200 a month and I maintain the same high coverage on Motorcycle.

Rather have and not need than need and not have.

But all this is a personal decision and everybody needs to decide what works for them, cause regardless, INSURANCE costs are crazy, and they sure as heck not going down unless you drop your coverage to lower minimums.

U just gotta be smarter than the average bear on this stuff. I carry 7 figures on house. 6 figures on MC/Truck. Most allowed by law.

Pretty much the same story here but different companies.

We were with Safeco (owned by Liberty Mutual) for years, with only very slight increases in premiums. We had 2 Autos, Home, and a $1M Umbrella policy.
Last year all premiums jumped by a lot, maybe 30-40%.

I started calling and asking around, ended up with a broker who recommended Erie Insurance.

We were able to add coverage, increase our coverage, and double the Umbrella, and ended up with premiums that were HALF the renewal cost of our old company.

I'm now paying $537/year for the 2014 Ram, $1081/year total for both cars. Safeco wanted just over $2000/year.

None of these details should matter to you, there are too many variables, but the idea is to show what you might gain when you shop around for insurance, for example by reading experiences at https://trexis-insurance.pissedconsumer.com/review.html. You never know until you give it a shot.
Yes, it can be correct. The high cost is mostly due to full coverage on a newer, more valuable truck, not because it’s a Dodge. Your old 1998 Ram only had liability, which is much cheaper. The “Dodge trucks are always higher” claim is misleading.

Another thing to consider when switching to a lower cost insurance company is how will they handle claims.

I could get a lower cost policy with Progressive compared to the AAA policy we have.
Just for the heck of it I called the body shop that repaird our two trucks with hail damage a year ago and asked the rep about Progressive. She hesitated and then said they have to jump thru hoops to get claims completed.
With the AAA policy we had all work was approved instantly.

So maybe paying more has its benefits.

I have State Farm, had them for past 25 years, no accidents, no speeding tickets, house is on state farm also. My past 13 Ram 1500 hemi 2wd qc was about $200 less a year compared to my latest 21 Ram 1500 4x4 5.7, insurance with uninsured motorist is $600 every 6 months. This is higher area for vehicle thefts in Wa state.

It seems to often boil down to the individual adjuster. We had to deal with Progressive recently, my son was injured in a not at fault crash by an uninsured driver, and they were great. The medical side took a bit longer, but that was because the original adjuster left the company during our claim.

From my experience both as a claimant and from dealing with insurance companies over crash reports I made as a street officer (dated, now): Progressive and Geico were usually good to go. USAA used to be, but much more spotty now. Farm Bureau pays out, but will drop you faster than anybody else and is pricy. American Family was very solid all around. Allstate sucked ass, very difficult to work with and hated paying claims. Not much dealing with AAA, Liberty Mutual, Farmers, etc.

That does sound pretty high to me. I’ve got a 2016 Ram 1500 and my full coverage is nowhere near $3,500 a year. It might depend on your location, driving record, and even credit score depending on the state. Trucks can sometimes cost more to insure because they’re expensive to repair and more likely to be used for work, but that number still seems steep. I’d definitely get quotes from a few other insurance companies.
