That's weird - an EM episode not long ago tested different exhaust emissions, concluding there's little difference in power with varying restriction. The only significant improvement was long tube headers and collectors.

"If backpressure really added torque, the names Flowmaster and Magnaflow would instead be Chokemaster and Magnachoke."

That article reminded me that I need to wrap my headers lol.

Smaller exhausts promote scavaging which does have higher back pressure do to the smaller DIA and higher exhaust velocities which causes it to be a restriction at higher RPM or HP as it can only flow so much before becoming a restriction and increasing back pressure.

I usually always try to run the biggest exhaust I can with a merge (usually always an Xpipe) and a straight through perf core muffler for max flow. I stay away from crapmaster chambered mufflers and all others.

Wrapping the headers is usually always good and cheap but if u have ever had to deal with wrapped headers it’s not worth it lol. I now do my own ceramic coating (air cured creakote) and don’t even bother wrapping anywhere near where I need access or would have to work around.

I remember a test over a year ago, and the perf core was worth a solid gain over a chambered and a super turbo style muffler. I also saw where they dented a primary in half and it showed almost no HP loss.

Best I can say is design the exhaust around your power goals, RPm range and where you want it to be most efficient.
