On start up some mornings i get an intermittent knock coming from the lower end somewhere and i live in Florida so the coldest the engine gets is about 50 degrees. its not loud, but i can pick it out. it clears up when the oil temp gets up to about 120 it has been doing it for a while, the truck has 21k on it now. oil gets change religiously every 3k with 5w-20 mobile one full synthetic. and i checked my oil yesterday and it is very clean and have never had metal or grit in the oil when i change it. its a 2015 with the 5.7l and i dont tow anything, mostly city driving. didn't find any threads with a similar issue so i was wondering if anybody out there had the same issue. Any help is appreciated thank you for your time.

Mine does it to. It's gotten worse over the two years I've owned the truck. I have to take the truck in for the coolant bypass valve so I am going to bring it up to there attention again.

I've seen this many times , many have simple started using a 30wt oil to remedy this knocking sound .
The 20wt recommended oil is for an improved fuel economy .... my self and many others have been using 30 + wt oils in the 5.7 with great results .
Hope this helps you sir !

Seems to be a common problem on our Hemi engines.
Do a search on "Hemi Tick" and you'll find a ton of posts to read through.
Glad my engine is not affected. :)

A quart of the lucas stabilizer displacing a quart of oil at the next oil change will probably quiet it right down... I have personally had the stuff work wonders. i'm assuming it has some detergent characteristics to it and can re-pop/clean lifters. plus its thick...so that helps too.lol

thank you guys for all the help. im glad to see im not the only one out here with that issue personally i'm not as fan of the 20w i think its a bit light but the truck is still under warantee and id hate to have something go wrong after i change over to 30w and then they send the oil off for analytics and they tell me they cant cover it because it wasn't using the recommended weight of oil. And no i have never heard anything about mobile one not meeting Chryslers specs. what do they recommend? i have family members that have worked for Chrysler for years in the plants and they all run mobile in their vehicles.

Mine is doing what sounds about the same thing..for just a second or 2 maybe 3 hah...on start up...on a new motor...I found a broken manifold bolt towards the rear pass side...getting it fixed next week...hopefully that's what I'm hearing...I also notice it a tiny bit under heavy acceleration for the first minutes of startup

My engine went because oil wasn't circulating...I'm not sure but I won't use Lucas on the 5.7 again....though I've used it successfully on many others....I'm not the only one to have had an issue

Was it replaced under warranty?! How many miles did you have?

Chances are what you guys hear is a lifter tick on initial start up. They all seem to do it sometimes. What happens is a lifter bleeds down then when the engine is started next, it takes a couple seconds for the lifter to pump back up. I've seen brand new trucks on the lot do this lots. It's not really something that will cause any harm it's just annoying. Switch to 5w30 seems to help sometimes.

If it's a more noticeable tick then normal then its probably a broken exhaust manifold bolt.

Anybody know if this issue of manifold boots was resolved on the 13+ rams?

Mine does it up until it's like 190-200 oils temps then it quiets down still does it but very faint and I noticed as the oil get older it gets worst. And it's horrible on start ups almost sounds like a diesel with a messed up injector or something.
