Has anyone else had problems getting their iPhone 5 to charge on the 'charge port' (in the console) on the 2013s? It seems every time I want to charge mine I have to unplug the USB cable from the port for a few seconds and plug it back in before the phone will start charging. I've tried with two different genuine-Apple cables with the same result.

I wanted to see if this was a 'feature' before I go bug the dealer. :rotflmao:

It isn't the plug in your phone is it? I have the 5 and I have to blow in the charging port like an old Nintendo.

Doesn't appear to be the plug on my phone. While plugged into the phone, I have to unplug the USB end, wait a few seconds, then plug it back in and the phone will register it is charging. Must be a design flaw on the '13s. *shrug*

Thanks!

Common. I believe this is because that USB port can be on all the time, even when the ignition is off. I've used it to charge my phone while on an off-grid camping trip, and it charged the whole time. I have a feeling that it has the ability to detect something plugged in, and to avoid parasitic drain, it shuts off power to the plug after an amount of time. But what I haven't seen it do is shut off while charging my phone, but then, that only takes a couple hours (iPhone 5S) at the most.

IMO, it's a software issue that should reset when the truck is started, not when removing and re-plugging the USB cable.

My '14 does the same thing. If I leave the USB cable plugged in the charging port after I start the truck and try plugging in my iPhone it won't charge. I have to remove the USB cable from the charge port for a couple seconds at which point I guess it resets and then I can plug in and it functions properly.
I thought it was some power saving or safety feature, the port won't initialize if there is something plugged in at start up.

Ditto to Gill with my 2013... I plug the phone in and then have to just unplug the USB and plug it back in and it charges.

Same with mine. Unplug it from dash then plug it back in to start charging.

Ditto here as well. Weird thing is it didn't seem to do this with my 4. My 5 always charges when it's in the USB media port but the charging port i have to do the same as everyone else and unplug then plug in.

I was having the same problem as all above on my 2014 Ram 1500.

Took the truck in this to the shop for a few other problems and they supposedly fixed this but I am still having the same problem. The service lady at Bayshore Dodge in Baytown, TX said there was a recall...

Here is the exact wording from invoice

Recall P15 Reprogram Radio Frequency Hub
08P15182 Customer Satisfaction Notification P15

anyways, still did not fix the issue with the iPhone 5S

Just tested it. Its only about .5 amps on the built in usb ports, not really much of a charge anyway.

I didn't think it stayed on more than 5 mins after the truck turned off either... ill have to try with my ipod.

What id really like to know is are you guys just charging your phones or listening to music thru the usb as well??
I went ahead and put a 3 amp usb plug in the cig lighter port, its got two usb ports, one is 1 amp the other is 2.1 which is perfect to charge my galaxy S5 :naughty:

The built in usb ports? the one in the lower dash is for power.. but at .5 amps its really only useful to charge my e-cigg. The one in the center console is for playing music thru your stereo or updates.
Most phones these days (like the S5 and Note 3) need the whole 2 amps to charge correctly. If your plugging it into the built in ports you're likely only giving the phone power to run.... not charge.

Any progress with this issue? It is the biggest pain in the butt. I have an iPhone 5 and a 2014 Ram 2500. I can't believe an engineer can't easily solve this issue. Every time I have to flip my console up to unplug USB and replug in, it just plain ticks me off.
