Is ticking "normal" or a lifter problem?

Well as anticipated they found broken bolts and a warped manifold. $700 for a new manifold and bolt extraction. That doesn't seem too bad, I was thinking if the manifold had to be replaced it'd be over $1k.

Makes me feel slightly better about turning down the $3,000 extended warranty.

How much for longtubes? Maybe a little more to upgrade?

I dunno, but I'm likely to only drive this truck around 2,000 miles a year so I'm not too worried about it happening again. Well except for the driver's side now...
