So I recently bought a 2009 Ram 1500, I bought it with the key fob buttons not working (unlock/lock), attempted to fix using the common techniques but it didn’t work, but still fully worked for turning on the truck. Well the new problem I have is it will still turn on & start the truck, no lights codes or warnings, but if the key fob “wiggles” or moves slightly, it will be like disconnected and the truck just shuts off and doesn’t recognize the key. Is it a FOB issue or WIN?

My best guess is that it's the WIN module. The key fob doesn't make any elictrical connections with the WIN modeule, but works via a close proximity RFID chip. a few fractions of a mm of wiggle room shouldn't have any effect on the RFID.

But the WIN module does have electrical connections inside it which may be effected by worn out contacts and loose fitting moving parts.

Obviously I can't be certain, but the WIN module is the more likely culprit.

Do you have another FOB? Does it glitch too?

No, bought used so only single fob, but hoping it’s just the fob so I ordered one and will have to see if that fixes it.
That would be my next step too...good luck!

I used one of these. Ground off the metal key blade and programmed it to my truck with AlphaOBD.

It has no battery, no buttons, just the embedded RFID chip, which is all that's needed for the ignition/WIN module.

I only use the OEM hidden key type FOB, for locking/unlocking the doors and remote start.

The little one for the ignition/WIN module, the big one for lock/unlock/remote start. It's been working for 5 years so far, and since it's so much shorter, doesn't get bumped by my knee, jostled around, and end up damaging the WIN module.

Obviously, the key fob doesn't need batteries to start the engine. My little key doesn't even have batteries and has been starting my truck for a long time

Before or When the FOB comes in the Mail ....
OPEN up the your current FOB
Remove the Green Circuit Board & clean the board with a Q Tip & rubbing alcohol
Just like the guy was doing in the video, That is important !!

Then if you ordered the correct FOB,
You will be able to open it up & REMOVE the NEW green Circuit board.
Put the OLD Clean Circuit Board into the New FOB Case

IF you do that, chances are very good, that everything will work together WITHOUT Programming

My bet is the little ears at the head of the FOB are worn down from use. Replacing the case might fix it if it's on the key side. Use something like this to swap the internals of your key over to a new case...
