So I bought my 2016 ram 1500 5.7 last year right after Irma wiped us out down here in the Keys.

I bought the vehicle with 34,000 miles on it and I've been in love with it ever since. Last week I noticed a strong smell of fuel in the cab. I popped the cowling off the top of the motor and sure enough my passenger side fuel rail is soaked in fuel.

I called the nearest dealership in homestead and was told it would be customer pay and on top of that I'd be charged 180 bucks to diagnose my already diagnosed problem. Unsatisfied I called the dealership I bought it from, Arrigo Dodge and was given the same answer. My truck is just out of warranty and theres a major safety issue going on and nobody seems to give a damn.

I called dodge themselves and the woman I spoke with was so clueless that she was trying to link my tailgate recall to fuel leaking down the side of my engine. I own two dodges currently and its blowing me away that I cant get taken care of properly over an obvious factory defect.

Does Dodge really not care if their vehicles spontaneously combust on the side of the highway?

Pardon my ignorance but isn’t that covered under the 5 year/60,000 mile Powertrain warranty? Ram site: The Powertrain Limited Warranty covers the cost of repairs on all covered powertrain components — engine, transmission and drive system — for most new Ram vehicles.

And it is supposed to transfer to the new owner.

Well I'm at 63,000 miles now. Still I'd expect an obvious and dangerous factory defect such as this to be a non issue. They should want to avoid a lawsuit I'd imagine or at the very least avoid a flaming dodge on social media posts.

It's bad business to have a dangerous defect such as this so close to the end of the warranty and not just bite the bullet and fix it.

My old dealership in Missouri wouldn't have put up a fight at all and it's an obvious defect seeing as my other hemi has three times the milage and hasn't started spontaneously squirting fuel on to my exhaust manifold yet.

I don't think the fuel rail is considered part of the drivetrain.

Keith, I would try a private shop. Might save you some dollars. Or you could as the dealer to start the paperwork for Chrysler good will, but doubtful you will get any assistance.

Nah, I'm a mechanic myself (jet engine). Shops here in south Florida are shady to say the least. I already fixed the issue I just wanted dodge to step up to the plate. Defective O-ring on my fuel injector causing it to **** fuel out on my manifold. Thanks Dodge for pinching it on install and thanks for nothing regarding any assistance.

You say you bought it used, there could be the chance somebody prior to you had the fuel rails off the engine, and pinched the O-ring on re-install,might not be a factory defect if that was the case.

While I understand your reason to be aggravated with the dealers, as a mechanic didn't you come to the conclusion after removing the cowling it was most likely an O ring? If I had the knowledge and ability I'd do the repair myself before allowing a dealership mechanic to touch it.

Ultimately I like to do all my own maintenance. I've got an 07 srt8 charger that's never been back to the dealership but it's also never given me any issues where I thought it warranted a visit to the dealership. I simply didn't have the time or desire to pull the fuel rail and mess with it but I obviously wound up with no choice and put aside plans and do it myself today before it burst into flames.

Wait... the bumper-to-bumper is for 36k miles, but isn't powertrain to 60k?

I’ve never seen a dodge dealership take care of its customers or go the extra mile. In fact when I was getting the recall done on my truck, I watched them charge a lady $180 to replace the third brake light on her truck because it was leaking water into the cab. This is a very well known issue with these trucks and I replaced mine in 5 min (just a couple screws) and the light cost me $27. They even went as far to tell her it wasn’t covered on the bumper to bumper warranty. Every dealership I’ve been to for dodge has been like that. Every dealer I’ve been to for my Honda car has been the opposite. It’s no wonder people buy foreign these days. But that being said I still really love my truck. Can’t beat the dodge for raw power. Just not a huge fan of the company that much do to their less than awesome customer service.

I have a 2016 Ram 1500 sport and discovered a fuel leak at the passenger side after fuel injector.

I’m willing to bet someone had it apart at sometime, and possibly damaged it during installation. If it was a factory defect or installation error at the factory it would not have taken 63,000miles to occur.

Fuel injectors are also only covered under basic warranty, so you’re long past that unfortunately.
