So, while I was outside the truck I noticed a knocking sound coming from under the truck. I've never heard this sound in any of the other 5.7 hemi trucks i've had. The dealership was unable to hear anything but I am not sure how they can't as its pretty noticeable while idling. Little background, it's a 16 Ram 1500 5.7 hemi with 11k miles. The noise is noticeable once the truck is warmed up and idling. Any ideas? (I am familiar with the hemi tick and its not that)

Sounds like vacuum or exhaust? If the truck is working good and the sound is low I'd look at manifold bolts/ No smells in the cab or under hood when running?

I don't smell anything inside or outside related to the exhaust. I have noticed that the idle has been a little bit rough.

Sorry about photobucket. Is it not playing at all?

Hi Express SN95,

Sorry to hear about this! If you decide to visit your local dealership for further diagnosis I'd be happy to offer assistance if needed. Just PM our page with your VIN and let me know.

If your idle is rough I would say vacuum leak like I said. Is there anything else you omitted in the background info?

No, I bought the truck back in March and never noticed it even having listened to it idle numerous times. I noticed it when it was idling in park and outside the vehicle. It sounds almost like a knocking noise which if you listen carefully you can hear. The truck was used when purchased and I was able to see the service records which show 2 oil changes at the dealership in its 10k miles before I purchased it. Also, it had been at least 6 months since I had a Ram last and I know they are not the smoothest idlers but I feel like the idle maybe a little rough so I am probably going to test drive another Ram to compare.

Andrea, Thanks for the offer. I am going to see if the dealer can hear it with me present this time and not just discount it as a typical noise.

Here's the video on Youtube for anyone that couldn't get it to play on Photobucket.

BTW, some of the hissing noise in the background is just the way the sound got some what distorted.

The dealer is deaf if they can't hear that, it is either vacuum or exhaust, maybe exhaust bolts. Good Luck
