Light under the hood missing

I recently bought a new 2018 Ram 2500 Laramie Limited from a dealer in SC and had it shipped to me in MD. Spare tire was missing and the Ram Box lid on one side was falling off. After looking under the hood one night, I noticed there wasn't a light mounted under the hood like my previous trucks had. I went to a dealer and they said the diesel didn't come with one. there's a hole in the headliner for one along with two holes for the screws. Keep in mind that this is the top of the line truck for a 2500 diesel. I paid 75K for it.
does anyone know how I can find out if one wasn't installed at the factory for this year and model?

From what I've read 2017 seems to be the last year for the under hood light. I bet the company saved at least 10-15K by eliminating that feature last year. I did not get one on my 2018 Tradesmen. I did order the mopar kit of eBay watched a YouTube video and plunged it in. It cost less than $50 and took 10min.

Kit is cheap to add, seen them for under $30 at times.

Like you Randy, I was a bit amazed that the "premium lighting package" which include the box lighting in the rear, did not include the under hood unit. The wiring connective plug was there which made the install of the kit very easy, but it's still one of those things that make you go "What the ….?"

My 18 Sport has the cutout and the connection for it but didn't come with the actual light.

That's so weird that some years and models have the space and connector for it and some don't. I know my 2017 Ram 1500 QC express has the means to put one in and I'll have to check again, but I'm pretty sure my brother's new 2019 Ram 1500 QC express Classic has the goods to put one in too.

Not that these under hood lights are all that useful given we all have a flashlight on our cell phones that is probably 5x as effective, but it is cool to have in the dark of night should you need it.

My 13 outdoorsman came with light. I bought a led twisted festoon and is really bright Does help at night a lot. Kit if you have cutout should be plug and play easy install.

Don't know if you've seen this before or not but..... Click on the link and plug in your VIN# and it will spit out (I hope) the run down on your truck build sheet. It will not specifically state what lighting you should have (re: under hood light) but may give info on the lighting package. You might then search up what would or should be included in that option package. Here's the link:

my 2018 didn't have it and there was no place for it.

My 2018 Tradesman has the cutout and plug, I added it. Don’t remember exact cost but it was under $50. The plug for the light is at the base of the hood at the top of the firewall, not up where the light goes.

Let me tell you it is one bright SOB!


It did take about a month to arrive but for less than $10 it was worth the wait. I popped the cover off and replaced it while I was at work in like 5 minutes or less.
