Pulling a 32ft. 5th wheel RV from Idaho to Collerville, TN. then on to Ocala, FL.
We have: 2019 Ram 2500HD 6.4L Laramie 4x4 short bed. When loaded we expect to
be hauling about 18,000lbs and traveling I 80 through Wyoming & Nebraska.

What are your thoughts about climbing the hills along this route with the hauler we have??!!

I also have a 2019 Ram with the 6.4L, Bighorn. Mine is only rated for about 14,500 pounds towing. I think your pushing the limits, but it's not my gear.

If your axle ratings and overall capacity is legal, if you have the taller 3.73, those hills will make that thing thirsty

My 6.4 is rated to tow 17,037 pounds, and it tows my 9000 pound (loaded) travel trailer with ease. You didn't say what gears you have?

I read your original post wrong. When you said "hauling" I thought you meant trailer weight. If that's the combo weight I doubt you will have any problems unless you run out of Fuel...:rotflmao:

I don't think you will have much trouble. I towed 9300lbs with mine (combined weight was 17,260lbs- CAT scale verified) and although we were on flat ground I had no trouble at all even when pulling out to pass. I have a 2018 with 4.10's. The TT was a 2021 Grand Design Imagine 3250BH.

My son has an identical truck as mine and it weighed 16,200lbs combined towing his 26' TT and he has been all over the country through all kinds of terrain and had no issues at all.

EDIT: Don't get me wrong, that 6.4 will rev on steep hills but it won't hurt it. We are getting about 7.5 MPG towing both of these TT's

I80 in Nebraska will be fairly flat for the most part. Not sure of Wyoming. It will tow it fine...it's not a cummins though. It will definitely be a tad thirsty. Good luck and enjoy.

Good luck on your trip.
I'm another Grand Design owner and Tuesday we head to CT from Florida hauling our 2600RB. I expect to have a GCWR of just over 17000.
Our first stop is near Ocala.

Should be real close to that. My sons was 16,200 with his 2670MK but he has the 6.4 so you are gonna be about 800-900 heavier right there. His truck was 8100 with me, him, and some gear in it and the TT was also 8100lbs loaded

Mine was 8460 with not much in the truck last check. Trailer was 6500. Will probably add maybe 800 more total between the two vehicles. So actually that's closer too 16K.
Going to hit the scales on our way to the first stop just to see where I'm at.
