im looking at buying a 2010 ram 2500 with 5.7 hemi. it is a crew cab long bed. paint is in good shape, no rust except minor surface stuff. truck has 250k miles on title and carfax. the cluster shows 160k miles. im not worried about the mismatch, but about the total overall mileage. i dont see many hemis with that many miles.

good side:

its a 1 owner trade in, that was resold at auction a couple times. its at a dealer local to me.
1 owner serviced it at toyota dealer most of its life.
the engine is quiet, i was expecting some ticking or cam noise
tires are in good shape and it drives /shifts fine.
its had a LOT of maintenance work done, trans cooler lines, radiator and hoses, brakes, diff seals, bushings, oil changed every 3-5k

bad side:

suspension is rough and stiff, would def need shocks at the least. (maybe moving from 1500 to 2500 is why it feels like that?)
tpms is all over the place, 2 sensors dont work, other two showing 60 psi in tires
check engine light is on for gas cap (p0456 p0457) the cap is not oem
has a small dent on rear bed bottom side. not worried about this, barely noticable.

overall: carfax says its retail value is 12400. was asking 12k, i got him down a bit, but im second guessing myself buying a 250k mile hemi truck.

appreciate any opinions or comments

Yeah 2010 1500 had legendary coil back suspension and independent suspension, now you have leafs and solid axle. You will never get a 1500 ride out of a 2500, and to go further, you will never get a RAM 1500 ride out of a Ford or Chevy. The coil back is a huge upgrade for ride quality.

There is a bunch of stuff you can do to the 2500 to make it better though, air ride and shocks, steering stabilizers and such.

With 250k on it i cant see it being worth anywhere near 12k maybe like 6000 or so if its clean.. i have a 2012 2500 214k rough ride is normal i let some air out of tires to help tpms never work and evap code is common.

I mean if it has not been done already in its lifetime at some point you will be doing cam and lifters at least Unless you really need a 8ft bed like i did i would look for a better deal on a 6ft they are out there.

That mileage and the price is why it's passed from dealer to dealer.

Is it a 2500HD or just a 2500? The HDs tend to bring a bit more money. Before I'd drop that much scratch on anything with that many miles, I'd have a reputable experienced shop go over it with a fine tooth comb. Even then, like with any used vehicle, it's a crap shoot and you'll be upside down if you borrow on it.

All that said, it's possible that the previous owner took very good care of it and kept it maintained perfectly. Back in March I gave away my 2006 Toyota Corolla that I purchased new in 06. I did most of my own work, brakes, (best) oil, you name it. Anything that ever wore out was replaced with the best replacement parts. The car had a little over 750,000 when I finally gave in to my wife and replaced it. The car still runs great and is driven to work everyday by it's new owner.

its a 2500HD

i have gone over nearly every inch of the car. its got a few mini quirks, but nothing major. drivetrain is superb. its home now.

did not finance, total waste of money in financing. im fairly certain engine was worked or replaced sometime over its life. the engine mounts bolts and such have tool marks. whoever did the work did it very well. there doesnt seem to be a single broken clip anywhere and all the bolts and pieces are in the right places

Looks nice, congrats! I'm happy with my 2010 2500 5.7L Mega that I bought last year with 175k miles. Look at the video by EMF on YouTube on the steering shaft bushing. You can buy their bushing for $11, or use plastic spacers from the hardware store for about $1 to at least test whether it will make a difference for you. Made the biggest difference in tightening up my steering, wish I did it last year.
