I have recently bought a 2016 1500 ram bighorn that has a dial shifter. I’m looking for a company to install a center consul with a stick shifter for my automatic transmission. I just can’t get use to the dial shifter. Does anyone know of a company that would do this. I’m not picky about location but it would be nice if the was a company this side of the Mississippi.

the transmission is shift by wire, probably closest thing available would be the Jeep console shifter but lots of custom work to make that happen.
Give it some time, you'll get used to the simplicity of the knob unless your going give some BS line that you have a muscle memory for a console shifter. I hate to tell you this but the shift by wire doesn't react like a conventional transmission shifter.

I don't see why it can't be done, fairly easily

I dislike my rotary shifter so much that i almost sold the Ram & bought a Early 4th Gen Ram

7 years & i am still grabbing the radio knob at times

Next year or when something goes bad with this current Ram, i think that i read something about the Ram GT having a console shifter ?

The Torque Flite in’ 56 is a collector’s item they were kinda a novelty to drive.
I kinda miss my Savoy… if you like 4 wheel drums to stop 3000 lbs of tail-fin.
Ah the Rocket Age….

(note it could be worse)
They could have designed the dial
with no park.

I have the dial gear shift on my Ram as well, don't really like it either, but I have somewhat gotten used to it. Yes when in a hurry ai find myself grabbing the radio dial too, but worse.. grabbing the shifter dial instead of the radio. I'm an old gieser though so takes a while to get used to something new like that.
I have not really thought about putting in a console shift, don't think I would go that route myself, but might consider when replacing this truck.

I'm not that old, but I don't like the dial shifter. Someone will come along and tell you that you shouldn't like what you like and should like what they like, but I would value those opinions directly in proportion to how much funding they are providing for your vehicle. My next truck will most likely either be the Rebel G/T, as overpriced as it is for what the rest of it is, or a Ford Tremor.

There's been a few guys who swapped out their 5/6 speed RFE for the 8 speed and have used the Challenger/Charger console shifter, and i know Hellraiser did one using the Jeep console shifter. Paddle shifters can be done,i've had them in my truck for a 1/2 dozen years now.

Yea, I've heard everyone's opinion of me not liking the dial button. I'm ok if you like it but I am one of the one's that gets trashed because "I" simply like the console floor shifter because I'm different, I think it looks better and never said either one functions better than the other. Most people are ok with settling but I am not. Have no idea why that bothers people that I prefer a console shifter. That's the only thing my wife didn't like about her '14 Durango when we bought it was the dial button instead of a handle. It's got the console but the button instead of the shifter. She doesn't complain about it after 7 years I hope we still can like and choose something we like even if others don't. Yes, "I" like the muscle car looks..... They won't give me a choice of having a manual transmission so I have to accept that! Every car I've ever owned was either an automatic in the floor or a manual shifter in the floor. Still my preference...........Sue me! LOL

I agreed with every thing you said until you got to the 4 letter "F" word! LOL

I couldn't imagine the cost of a Ram GT interior to make this happen. Other than that, it would have to be some type of custom job.

Like said, there's no mechanical cable that goes directly from the shifter to the transmission. The transmission shifts by electronics.

There's a million threads on this. I've owned two Ram 1500's with ZF8's at this point and although I'm not thrilled with the dial-o-matic system, it's the least of my concerns.

I always loved the push button transmissions. That would be the ultimate custom job to install that into a modern truck.

Old thread I know but I finally put a console shifter into my 2021 longhorn and l really like it. Shifts like butter even my wife likes it. It was expensive and a pita but I haven't looked back. Next up is a trx hood on the front and it's already started. Although it is requiring some custom work. I'm going to try to list part numbers and procedures for shifter for anyone interested.it sounds like most people enjoy the rotary shifter better though. But if I can assist someone that wants to convert it will definitely save them some time. It includes a small amount of wiring.

If I didn't already have the console shifter I'd get the information from you. I love my console shifter and would have changed mine too if it hadn't come with it.PXL_20220415_233114634.jpg

My 2009 had that same floor console shifter
What was real nice was that i did not have to move my elbow much to elect any gear, without looking

The rotary shifter just has Park, neutral, reverse & drive
If you want to go up or down through the forward gears, you have to take your eyes off the road & move your whole arm, elbow, wrist, finger & then press the button on the steering wheel. Meanwhile your eyes were off the road way too long.... You would definitely exceed the 4 second rule for taking your eyes off the road in front of you
