looking to add remote start compitable with factory app

i have a 2015 ram 2500 diesel pickup that i would like to add remote start to and be able to use the factory app to start using my phone.

can i do this with an aftermarket kit or do i need to take my truck into the dealer and have them do it?

First thing to get out of the way- if you add factory remote start to your truck, it is not possible to add the remote start function to the factory phone app. It doesn’t matter if the dealer installs it or what they tell you. Uconnect won’t do it for you.

I'm not sure what year they started the Unconnect remote start function. Though my 2017 Ram with the Unconnect subscription will start my truck from my phone with the factory remote start.

Just a follow-up. I just asked a Ram tech friend and I was told that if your Uconnect system has the cellular connection then the Uconnect app with subscription and factory remote start should allow you to start from your phone. Might verify if your system has the Uconnect app and wireless connection before adding the remote start.

My prior Canada model did not have the cellular connection to allow this function to work. So this might be a US model only option.

Just to clarify my post above. If your truck was built at the factory with an 8.4 radio, but WITHOUT the remote start option, and you add the factory remote start later, Uconnect will NOT add the ability to remote start to your Uconnect app. It doesn’t matter what dealer added the remote start, or what the dealer says about adding the Uconnect service after the fact.

Thanks for clarifying, it's good to know. There was no mention of "Unconnect Service" would not support a added OEM function. I'll mention that next time I talk to him...
