I have grown up a Ford guy (still am at heart, please dont bash me) but after my last purchase of an 06 F150 its been issue after issue. I have had good luck with last F-150 which was an 02. Anyway enough is enough and I want to get away from the 5.4 I can't really afford the newer engines. So I found this RAM online at one of the dealers by me.

2010 Dodge Ram 1500 for sale in Cincinnati - 1D7RV1GT3AS158259 - Kerry Ford

I was wondering what kind of issues (I know there will be some) to expect with something like this.

Thanks for all your help and maybe you will help convert me!

Its a nice looking truck. Im assuming your used to putting 87 in your F150, these HEMI motors run much better on the recommended 89 octane fuel. so that's something yours going to have to adjust too. IMO with that kind of mileage I would want to know what available records of service were provided on the vehicle. I would make sure it has a total tune up, and all fluids engine / trans flushed...

since the truck has almost 90K on the clock, a mod that is highly suggested for these motors is a ( Catch Can ). prevents dirty oil from getting cycled back into your engine from the intake.

IMO if you can get that truck for 22.5K then that would be a fair price as it appears to be well equipped.

Thats an awful lot for a used pickup, you could probably get a 2013 express for close to that price other wise there really isn't huge problems with these trucks. The trans is about the only thing that is really touchy.

The trans on these trucks can be an issue, forgot to mention that. That however is something that all us RAM owners have to deal with.

Caldwell, are you talking about the nag1 tranny? What kind of issues are you seeing. I've been around the LX and WK world since 05 and thought the nag 1 was rock solid... At least up till 500 rwhp.

My problem is I like all the toys and coming from a Lariat it would be hard to give them up. I have owned my 06 for 3 months and its been to the shop at least 5 times and for multiple days. I think I might go up to the dealer tomorrow and take a look at it. Its got the car fax here.

This will be my last purchase car wise for awhile since I am sure I'm going to be taking a loss on my trade in.

I was just talking about Dodge / RAM trans in general, they are hit and miss. unless im majorly wrong it just seems like the 4th gen trans are limited because of TQ management which is a bummer.

Thanks for all the help. I am going to check it out tomorrow for sure. I'm going to be extra weary of the tranmission though. At how many miles do they tend to go out?

No real set rule as to when the transmission will quit on you but I have heard from people in the past it was around 60k.
This truck has 90k on it so I would consider it a great truck as I just saw someone post they had 250k on their truck and it was still running like a champ with normal maintenance done to it.

The biggest thing that kills these transmission are downshifting from OD to the passing gear which I believe is called 2nd prime. 390hp on any stock friction packs pretty much roasts them. Also the Nag1 trans is a better option but they are not avalible in the Ram series vehicles.

Well, I didn't end up getting the Ram earlier in the post. After I took the F-150 3 or 4 different mechanics without finding any issues I went out kicking tires without any intentions of buying anything but I found a great deal I just couldn't pass up. I ending up getting 17K for my broke F-150.

I got a 2011 Ram 1500 Big Horn 4x4 with 7,895 miles. Basically a brand new truck!
