I found this interesting. Had my oil changed last Thursday by the dealer truck was purchased from. Saturday morning I noticed a patch of oil on my driveway. Filter was loose a full turn! Estimate about 1/2 quart lost and the instrument gauge showed 2 bars from full. Took the truck back in to top off what was lost. After service department "checked" the oil, they decided to do a completely new oil change. Not even your dealer trusts the instrument cluster.

More great dealership service work. In all my 50+ years of driving and vehicle ownership, I have only had one 100% positive interaction with a dealer service center.

Most times I have tried to use them, I had to fix what they messed up.

Same with over the road big trucks. When I did need to take one in, it was a big job I didn't have the tools or place to do. After they half did the job, I would bring it home and finish up what they didn't do right.

Dealership doing TSB work on my 2019. when RAM first came out with 5th gen they discovered they had bad evaporators for the HVAC that were installed in new RAMS. They pulled everything out : Dash, all HVAC blower motors etc to replace EVAP. All on Stellantis dime. I also had entire rear backlit (rear window assembly) done so guess I am fortunate decent dealership.

CAVEAT: rear window done by third party auto glass company who got the parts from dealership and came to my house and replaced entire rear window assembly.

Cannot complain too much.

At least the Dealership made it right. I know monster PITA but they did fix for U.

Why I don’t have dealership kids do my oil. I go to local shop I trust.

The no dipstick. Well that be the standard on Hurricanes and also a lot of other brands.

The dealer has to pay liability insurance for shop
repairs, and oil changes rank up there for losses.
That is why they did it all over again. They don't want any claims. Better safe than sorry. CYA.

The catch to keeping my dealers lifetime powertrain. Much prefer doing it myself.

For sure glad they made it right. They would be on the hook if something happened.

Speaking of leaking oil filters, have you changed your own oil in hemi e-torque 4X4. The filter is almost impossible to get to or use two hands to tighten it. When taking the filter out oil goes everywhere. I wish they would come out with a remote filter fix so it would be easier to change and we could use a larger filter.

Tire shop that does oil changes as well changed oil in a car
A new kid left filter loose, owner drove off and motor started knocking about 4 blocks later.
After it was pulled back to shop, you could follow the oil trail from the lift to down the street. not sure if it had a oil light or service light.
That shop bought a new motor. I forget what the car was

I just changed the oil in my ‘26 last week. Meh, the filter is definitely not easy to get to, but certainly doable. Getting a new one back on…might as well strap a blindfold on. Honestly…closing your eyes helps. I dont think i have gotten a single drop of oil on the ground the 3 times i have done it. Definitely drains all over everything directly below it, though.

**The Engineers** “hey, lets not only hide this filter where you cant hardly see it let alone reach it, but lets also install it at a 90 degree angle! Yea, that will be awesome!”

I have 1966 and 1967 Plymouths with big block engines and the horizontal mounted fliters on them are impossible to change without getting oil everywhere. When I got my 23 RAM I was surprised to see that in roughly 65 years some things never change. I take a sheet of aluminum foil and cover everything under the RAM filter and try to shape it to drain off into the pan. Works reasonably well.

If you search the threads, you will find numerous posts about installing remote filter kits.
They're not too expensive and will make filter changes infinitely easier.

I have had problems over the years with the Jiffy Lube and 5 minute type of oil change shops. They either don't tighten the filter or I suspect them on not even changing the filter. I also suspect them of using " bulk oil". Which is recycled oil. I do all my own oil and filter changes now.
