Hoping this isnt a newbie question but will accept the consequences if it is..

Not all the time, but at times ill be driving or just starting up the truck (not moving), and ill hear this loud, wispy fan, blowing noise in the engine compartment. Is it the radiator?

I could be making this up, but it seems like when it happens, I have to use more gas to keep up the current speed.

eh?

Look at your coolant temperature when it starts and when it stops. Digitally if possible,i.e. 210* rather than "Just Above Normal".

It's likely just the cooling fan engaging then disengaging.

I know on my 3500 when I'm running the A/C even if the engine is cold the PCM will engage the fan if the high side A/C pressure gets too high. Are you running your A/C when this happens?

Hello af2018,

Are you thinking you'd like to get this inspected by your Ram dealer? Send us a direct message if we can be of any help with that process.

Fan, that big 850W cooling beast, when it gets spun up, You will hear it, unless U got a monster amp and music banging, LOL. all IMHO...

AF2018: Not sure if your truck has the 850W fan or the 800W, but either really spool up and blow when full force. IF U ever rode in a Humvee and heard the oil cooler kick in, U would know, LOL
