My truck has never done this until yesterday.
I had new rims put on last week, but again it didn't make the noise till yesterday.

I can't find anything that makes the noise happen, it happens in forward & reverse I've only heard it at slow speeds (less then 10mph),sounds like its coming from the back, its happen 3 times and I don't want my flippin tire to come off while I'm going down the road. Any help would be great.

97 ram 1500, 4wd, if it helps at all the new rims I got are steel rims (heavier then the stock rims) and they gave me a little more stance.

Well it kinda depends on what you are doing when it does it. Are you just taking off and it pops? It could be the diff out of sync for some reason. The heavier wheels could have stressed it and could have cracked some teeth.

Dat Cummins!
Maybe check the universal joints in the drive shaft. They will also make some of the noise you are describing. By chance..... when you put it in gear, does you hear a "pop" noise?

Def check the rear ujoint
This is what mine ended up doing. Funny thing is, when u grabbed the driveshaft and tried to move it, it was solid. Come to find out, it was bound up. So def check the ujoint. Cost me $93 to get a new yoke welded on my driveshaft.

u-joints would be my first/cheap check on fix on it the heavier rims might have stressed them. mine did it only when slowing down and starting off shortly after new tires. if that's not the problem then id check the dif as said before cuz if so you really wanna catch that asap before it gets nasty
