I just installed the 18 inch magnaflow and it's allot louder than my flow master 70 big block series. Thought the drone would be less but it's more. I'm hauling the camping trailer allot this summer and it's driving the wife nuts. Not impressed so far.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but if you're towing in tow/haul mode doesn't the turn off MDS? That should eliminate most of the drone no?

I've got a bully dog tuner and I disabled the mds. Still it's allot louder than the 70 series. Is the 22 inch maggy allot quieter?

That I couldn't tell you. I hope the drone isn't too bad. I have a 18 sitting in the box still waiting to be installed and most of the reviews said the drone on the Magnaflow was less noticeable than the Flow Master....

If you have the stock double exit in the bumper try a side exit exhaust that way the sound wont reflect off the trailer

Just put truck in gear.... use the +/- buttons to do it.

that will disable the MDS and you won't have that annoying tone!

From your pic you've got a sport, so duals shooting straight back. Since its a 2013 did you even have a chance to pull the trailer with the Flowmaster?

With the duals exiting straight aft, the noise reflects back off whatever you may be towing. If this is your first towing episode with the RAM, you would have had just as unpleasant a suprise either way.

Last thing you probably want to hear is the need to spend more $ on exhaust, but three options come to mind, 1) return to the stock OEM muffler, 2) dump exhaust after the axle or, 3) redirect to turn outs to the side :33:

We tow our trailer with the sliding rear window open, and with the Maggy 22' there is not a hint of drone. It has a better 'bark' than stock but not too loud; LOVE it.

Drone exists outside of the world of MDS.
My '13 Ram 2500 5.7 doesn't have MDS, and I still get drone on and off.

There are so many factors involved in removing a standing frequency, that's why the factory exhaust has a HUGE TRASH CAN AAAAND a Resonator (or two, in the case of the sports).

You may have enough room upstream of the muffler to add an aftermarket (I know Flowmaster makes one) Resonator.

What you need is a Helmholtz resonator. Its used in car exhausts to reduce loud and obnoxious engine noise. The dimensions are calculated so that the waves reflected by the resonator help cancel out certain frequencies of sound in the exhaust.
One of the vendors, BSM Exhaust was advertising them last year (see link below).

Pretty sure i remember white express trying that and while it does work it constantly needs adjustment to continue to suspress the drone due to varying altitude and/or atmospheric conditions.

I also have a canopy so that enhances any noise as well. I've pulled the trailer with the flowmaster and it's actually less noisy than the manga flow. I think the flowmaster 70 series is actually optimized for towing.

try cutting out the resonators. it really helps.

I'm actually going to try to put on a resonator before the muffler. It kinda looks like a honeycomb inside. That's what the local muffler guy recommended. I just hope it won't affect flow and performance.

Been there tried that... Rubbish.

It works great, at one temperature for one frequency.
Unfortunately, the length of the chamber dictates what frequency it blocks.
The length of a wave changes with temperature, pretty dramatically.

I don't know how well it works on rams, but these are really popular on G8s and the Challengers from SOLO performance.
They do work and a lot of people say they reduce the drone.
