Same here. I find it much easier to see than using a phone. I need to have my reading glasses on to use waze on my phone. Paying 500 to activate it and 150 for updates is way too expensive though.
Agreed. We're at the age when the regular print is also fine print, and the large print is sometimes hard to make out. So far the outdated maps haven't been a problem.

On 2018 and up 4c UAS, with the same years USB hub, once you plug your phone in the maps function is all on the screen. Enter destination, zoom in and out, etc. all on the screen of the radio.

Nav Maps i know about, Nav Maps are upgraded once or twice a year

There used to be a Bulletin at every Dodge dealership, it read that a customer should only update the maps every 3 or so years.
The reason is NEW Roads are built very seldom

The second part of the maps is the attractions & businesses, which are updated with every map change
Would you pay $147+ every year to find out that Starbucks changed addresses

Who ever owns those satellites In conjunction with Google each decide when to make a new set of maps

Nokia has been buying the satellite downloads
They supply the maps that were used in Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, i don't know if they will continue that practice with Stelantis.

Anyway, Nokia owns Navigation com & further down the line a company called HELP com & ever further down the chain is WEGO com
Somewhere in the chain, the data downloaded from the satellite is downloaded to readable language & that has to transferred to software that will work in vehicles, somewhere in there, the date from GOOGLE is combined with the satellite date.

When all that is said & done, they print out CDs
.....................

Before i buy a new Map CD, i phone the number on the Navigation site & ask about when the last edition was produced & when we can expect to see the new Edition.

I absolutely need Road Maps & i carry the latest edition Map book that you can find at most Truck Stops.
I try to use my laptop to find a address & print it out before i leave my place
I don't have time for a Smart Phone, so i just have a cell phone
Someone needs to call me, they can use their voices, i don't have time for Texting
So i definitely need a large screen that is easy to use & the Nav in my Ram i can speak to & get a fairly quick response.
I also punch in the address before i leave my place, but all too often, the dispatcher does not use the correct suffix with the street name,
ie: Street, Ave, Lane, Extension, east, west, etc.
I recently bought a Truckers GPS & when i return to work, it will be mounted, it does have Lifetime Maps & Traffic.

There was a comment post above, they mentioned support being pulled on an old Chevy, due to age

Maps are always available, even though the radio software updates to fix flaws may end

Crash, thanks for that info. Good to know it can be done but it sounds like an expensive and time consuming undertaking.

John, thanks for the reference to AA Wireless, I was unaware that was out there, but I think that will only work with an Android cell phone so unfortunately that will not work for me.

Thanks, but all that does is convert factory CarPlay to wireless. I don’t have factory CarPlay in my 2014 Limited. I think that was first offered in the 2018+ Rams.

Slightly off topic but anyone considering upgrading their older radios to a 2018+ UAS/UAQ radio for android auto or CarPlay capability be careful when choosing your new/refurb unit. Most 2018 and early 2019 radios have screen delamination issues. LG the manufacturer of the touch screen used bad glue in the manufacture of the screens and the glue leaks out in summer heat. Dealers are well aware of the problem and I had my 2018 replaced outside of warranty for $100 good faith replacement. Make sure the radio you choose has the new updated screen part.

My wife just bought a 2021 Honda and her nav shows restaurants that have been closed for years. Chances are, your nav that came with your truck already needed updating when you bought the truck. That said, I won't be updating until businesses stabilize or it won't be accurate going forward.

Phone maps are on the little half screen. We need the full 12" view

Sorry, did not realize you were talking about the 12 inch screen. I have 8.4 inch and it is full screen there, which is good for these older eyes. But I can "see" the advantage having a full 12 inch maps option. So if the 12 inch radio does not give full screen access to the map function in Android Auto and Carplay, that seems rather ridiculous.

with the 12" OEM screen that comes with Navigation
Does that mapping ever go to full screen, or does it only go split screen too ?

Just tried it on my Rebel with 12inch and Nav.
Stock Nav does go full screen. But the Nav with this Ram, is horrible crap. Took forever to get my own address
Place I live can be called many things. So I had keep trying all options. You can't just type your address. It's city, street, number.

I tried my Apple12 phone, which has Amazon music, and google maps.
The google maps and apple maps own shows half screen, and Amazon music shows on bottom.
Can't change it. Google maps is really tiny.

Going to get all those cables, and that alfaobd, see if I can hack this thing.

I usually drive across the USA, California to Connecticut & back in July/ August for my family reunion each year

When i stop for a Meal or Motel & the service is good
I make sure to mark that in My Favorites
Finding the motel at 9 to 10 PM when the weather is raining or dense Fog
can be a real bear, especially after driving for around 11 hours, with stops for fuel, food, & leg stretching

We purchased a 2021 Longhorn dually and after seeing all the great tech I was very disappointed in the horrible mapping system - on a 12 inch screen no less! Now, less than a year later they are offering an update for $100 which I'm guessing is just short of the previous horrible map based upon other's posts. The convoluted process to update the truck's map appears to be for their protection, not ours. AND, it looks like the update process was written by some government lacky. Boy, are they missing out on major revenue when they could supply maps people really want and make big money like Google does by stealing your travels and personal data. I don't think I'm going to upgrade. Thanks everybody for sharing your personal experiences which really helped me to make a decision.

Yes, you can set things as split screen or full screen. Have the 12" screen on my 2020 and like it.
