Well, I have my truck down and found a failed lobe and lifter roller loose. Time for a new cam lifter kit.
Im doing the MDS delete and have it narrowed down to one of the 2 here .

Thoughts one over the other and why?

Im undecided if I want to up grade to a no tune cam with the MMX kit , Thoughts ?

My truck is a daily driver and used to pull an enclosed trailer maybe two or three times a year

2012 Ram 15000 2wd quad cab it it matters

Get the MMX kit. Then tune it. You have a 2012. The ECM is already unlocked and HP tuners would work best
Im new at this modern Hemi stuff. Please elaborate on Tune it , Please?.
I am a former Dodge dealer tech but got out of that rat race 2008 or 2009 time frame . Long before any of these cam failures started

Is this something I can do with the extra cost HP tuner in place of the Diablo tuner ? Or something I have to hire out to a shop with more complicated / elaborate equipment ?

Im not after every ounce of hidden power in this truck. Just want it reliable and only want to do this once

ps, Is the HP Tuner locked to the truck once connected or am I able to use it on other vehicles

I don't understand why someone that has MDS & wants to get rid of it,
Doesn't just get rid of the MDS Camshaft, etc.

Have your engine set up like a Ram 2500 5.7L
OR
Drop 1 shift position in the transmission
OR
Drive around in TOW/HAUL

Im not 100% sold on deleting the MDS , thus why Im asking here. But it seems to be overwhelming most do . My research so far tells me the roller on the scat pack non MDS lifters are a vast improvement over stock MDS lifters

One thing I will be doing is upgrade to the hellcat oil pump

Technically it's locked. The module can be used on any car/truck. But you need to buy software credits which is locked to vin.
Credits are around $50 US each. can't remember if you need to buy 2 or 3.

Your truck and money. But for 2012, you not racing or even looking for extra power. My view it's waste of money.

Don't know why you would want to go mds delete way. MDS didn't cause the issue. Don't want mds to be active, drive faster :)

Also I disagree with above. I don't like Diablo, but it works, and it's simply for your need.

You are going need to pay someone to do the tune as well. Costs are just going to keep going up and up.

Thanks,
I am leaning more and more towards just reinstall an MDS cam ( looking at a Melling cam ) OEM MDS lifters. ( #s 5038785AD and 5038786AD ) Hellcat oil pump oe # 68195993AD as Im told it a 100% bolt in no mods. As well as a new Melling VVT timing chain gear set

and put it back to OE

I wouldn't waste money on the hellcat oil pump either. It's another "Solved" which isn't true.

My view. 1/10th is design issue. 9/10th is quality issue. Hemi isn't only engine with cam/lifter issues. It's just more known in the US.

From the many pics I've seen. Cam and/or lifters failures aren't always in same place. High/Low Miles, Low/High idling (More common to hear high idling) , Oil brand/Change hasn't matter.

Percent of people having issues based on total trucks/cars is relatively low.

This all may be very true. BUT, Im putting a new oil pump in it either way. And more oil cant be a bad thing to help keep it lubed.

Also thinking new valve springs couldn't be a bad idea with it having 150k miles on it

You can use the HP tuners software on multiple vehicles.
You must buy credits for each tuned vehicle. So X credits for your truck, X credits for a car, etc.
You will need someone familiar with the software to adjust the tune. You can address multiple issues, like idle rpm, fan on temp, mds on or off, speed limiter and shift points.

In my humble opinion adjusting the idle rpm to 750, vs 550 does as much as adding the HV oil pump. But that's me. Your opinion may be different.

If you are going back stock, keeping mds and running 87 octane fuel. Don't tune.

If you're not, then you should consider. It's your $$, get what you want

the state police cars with Hemis come with the MDS factory deleted..and possibly a few other mods. They want that rapid acceleration and response. They don't have to be concerned with fuel consumption.

i dont know about the bigger ones, but when my wife needed a "new" grocery getter i was able to pick up a gently used pursuit charger

holy cow does that thing scoot
(and you know, its AWD and has higher impact bumpers so it safer for her to drive)

out of curiosity anyone thought about what a 2012 Ram is worth?
with that much specifics, anywhere between 3 and 30k

Value of MY truck is irrelevant. I like my truck and Im going to fix it.
Just have to make the decision to delete the MDS or put it back stock.

Honestly. My biggest fear if I go the delete it path.
Is the tuner.

Ive read some of these things can actually brick the ECM.
Plus any associated costs to have an outside shop " Tune it " so to speak.

Plus the whole Use it once to turn off the MDS and bump base idle , then put it in the toolbox never to be used again for a tuner seems foolish

I have it totaled up and this ordeal is going to be in the $2000-2200 range regardless of which way I go. So Im trying to do this right , and only once
