I have heard somewhere that the MDS wont work unless you use 5w20--does this mean that I can use a different oil weight and the mds wont come on again? That would be a great solution-but will I damage the engine-The 5w20 is damn thin and doesnt last long especially in hot climates,Its great for cold start-ups but doesnt cling aswell as a thicker oil. Does anyone know if the mds doesnt activate with a thicker oil or would this create issues?

I’m running 5W 30 and mine still works so that’s probably not the fix. I disable mine by the gear up and down buttons before each drive. Slight hassle but I’m getting used to it would love to be able to turn it off with a gizmo like the one posted above that leaves no trace and doesn’t alter the turn from the factory.

I'm one of the lucky ones, can't even tell when MDS is operating. I've tried the trick of selecting minus on the transmission range select which supposedly disables it, driving around it feels the same.

My Ram is a 15 with the 6 speed transmission and side exit single exhaust, either I'm oblivious (eh, maybe I am) or it's just transparent on my truck.

not true. i run redline 5w30 and mds works. but i turn it off every time. you are correct, 5w20 is thin. and many believe (me included) that thin oil contributes to the cam/lifter issues. i live in maine and saw low temps around 15 below this past winter and i had no issues. truck was parked outside all winter. these hemi engines need molybdenum in yhe oil. redline 5w30 is hemi honey.

I was waiting for range technologies to email me back, they said they are working on 13-newer rams. They didn’t give me an ETA.

Damn -was hoping that would work-You living in Texas would benefit with a thicker oil with the heat--I think I should probably go with the 30 in summer and 20 in the winter-and manually switch off the mds-bummer!!

I’m going to be running 5W 30 year round. So far almost every recommendation says to do that. Pretty sure I’m going to switch to redline next time myself.

I hear ya. I switch to Mobil 1 Syntec 5w30 since the stuff comes on sale 1/2 price at Crappy tire often. Got tire of paying 3x the price for RL out here.
