You can with a tuner but you’d have to buy a new unlocked PCM to do it unfortunately.

And why would you want to do that?

Because it’s a redundant system. It messes with the exhaust note of aftermarket exhaust systems, it doesn’t really help with mileage and it’s also plays a part in the cam and lifter failures that these Hemi’s are known to have.

Dealer won't turn it off and probably can't with FCA's new programming tools.

You can do it with a programmer (might need a custom tune) and as @corneileous said you will need a new PCM as well.

There's a cheaper way to turn it off. Just shift down a gear out of full automatic.

My dealer actually said they could but they also said that they won’t because they said that if FCA ever got wind they were disabling MDS’s that they could levy some pretty steep fines to the dealerships if they ever got caught.

Forgot about that...lol

Effective and much cheaper, just kind of a pain in the ass to have to do that every time you start your truck up. Lol.

You get used to slipping it into another gear at startup. My 2007 MegaCan didn't have MDS but it was a real pig at lower speeds in full auto. So I'd use the gear select button on the end of the transmission lever. It became (pardon the pun or don't, it don't matter to me) automatic for me to do so.

I hadn't thought about dealers getting in trouble for turning off MDS. It probably messes with their CAFE certifications even though MDS is an ineffective and worthless system IMHO.

I wanted to turn it off in my 2014 6.4L truck and my dealer said they couldn't. Now that I think of it they didn't say why they couldn't.

I don’t know, that dealer I talked to might’ve been just blowing smoke up my ass in a tactic to just get me to leave it alone but I wouldn’t be surprised if they could turn it off. I mean after all, they can input pretty much whatever sales code that they want even though they’re supposedly not authorized to do so on certain things.

Even when the one time that I kicked around the idea of putting 35s on my truck, I had called up the dealer and asked them if they could input the same sales code in my truck that they do on the rebels that would make my air suspension the same way to where my standard ride height is basically what my off-road level one is which is standard ride height for the Rebel and they said they couldn’t do that as well.

I bet they could, they’re just probably not permitted to do so.

I know for a fact that they can't get into the RF Hub to change TPMS threshold settings anymore. FCA locked the techs out when the 2015 or 2016 diagnostic tools were distributed.

I suspect some areas the techs used to get access to are no longer available to them.

Correction, you have to do that every time you shift into D. LOL
For me it's a habit, and as automatic as buckling up. It's weird when I drive another car and there's no shift button on the steering wheel LOL.

But yet you can change it with Alfa OBD....lol.

They also told me they could in no way permanently disable the Auto Start/stop in my wife's GC Trailhawk.
But when we took delivery it was magically disabled.
No error messages other than AUTO S/S not available at start up screen...
Don't ask-don't tell...
