Megacab.........

Sooooo........

As a lot of you know, I've been on the vehicle search. Torn between several trucks. All completely different from one another. Despite all of my "builds" on manufacturers websites, test drives, etc., not one really spoke to me.

I almost pulled the trigger on a new Silverado 2500 ZR2. If they would have moved $2,500, I would have. But, I didn't like it enough to fight for it and by not moving I think they did me a HUGE favor!

After I left the chevy dealer, I said screw it. Drove 20 minutes to the RAM dealer. Test drove (for the second time) the 2500 Rebel and (for the third time) the RHO. Rebel was first and I immediately said out loud (salesman laughed) "holy ****, this is so much nicer!" I knew then, I was staying with RAM!

After the rides the GSM and I were chatting and I was explaining what my motives were. He says "what about a Megacab?" I NEVER even considered one (and I never considered a diesel as I don't need it). I thought, why not look at it. It was a Limited (which I have in a 1500) and I was like this may work. Then he folded the rear seats flat and I was like "F*&# yes!". This will work!

So I found one (a Megacab) at a dealer that is everything I was looking for (color, options, etc.) in other models. I drove it today and it was the first vehicle that actually spoke to me and the first vehicle that I said to myself, "yep, this is the one."

With that, a couple of questions.......

First, this was my first time in a Laramie trim. It wasn't bad at all. I could live with it (coming out of a Limited). Other than "plushness", what does the Limited give you that the Laramie doesn't have?

I've NEVER had a diesel! What are the areas of concern with running one?

Is $86 a respectable price on a new Laramie Megacab?

Yeah, I really like the Megacab. I've had 2 of them in 2500 diesels, an '18 Laramie and my current '22 Limited Longhorn.

More bells and whistles standard, but it depends on option packages. A really well optioned Laramie would be very close to a Limited. Interior is nicer on the Limited's, but my Laramie was nice too. Limited will have all leather seats.

Lots of issues if you plan to not tow often and/or use it commuting. Do a LOT of research on this before buying. Frequent regens, clogged DPF's, etc. They are a great motor, but the EPA has made them into vehicles you need to work hard. My '22 sits in the RV shed unless I'm pulling my big trailer. And that is kind of a bummer. I'd like to drive it more, but I know what that leads to. My '18 did not have the regen issues. It is much more prevalent issue in the newer trucks.

It will get driven. My commute for work is roughly 40 minutes each way. On the weekends, I'm driving 1.5 to 2 hours every weekend to train/test/hunt. While the towing may not be there initially, it will get driven. Roughly 20,000 to 25,000 miles a year. 85% of that driving is on the highway.

As mentioned above, unless you plan on towing or most of your driving is considerable distances on the freeway your probably better off going with a gasser. It not that one can't daily/short drive a diesel but it can take a good 25+ miles to just barely get the a diesel engine up to operating temperature, that's when the emissions system can possibly clean itself if needed.

Usually, when somebody asks about pricing, I like to compare to Mark Dodge pricing. Nobody can really answer your question without knowing the options on your perspective truck, BUT I will say that the HIGHEST priced 2026 Laramie Megacab on their site is stickered at over $96k, and is listed at $81k. So, it ain't likely your price is respectable.
Get with @AnthonyRI at MD and see if he can work something up for you.

Nobody can really answer your question without knowing the options on your perspective truck, BUT I will say that the HIGHEST priced 2026 Laramie Megacab on their site is stickered at over $96k, and is listed at $81k. So, it ain't likely your price is respectable.
Get with @AnthonyRI at MD and see if he can work something up for you.

If running a diesel under the conditions described, with the potential for problems as layed out due to said conditions why not see if the dealer can track down a gas version of what you want?

Dealers can and will check inventories of what other dealers have and get it to you if you really want it.
Years ago (2009) the local Nissan dealer here had a little Versa that was brought up from Louisiana for an individual that wanted one but in the end they bailed on the purchase I believe due to credit issues in the end.... Which led to me seeing, test driving and buying it for the wife.

They even knocked off a tad the price because it was driven up from that dealership to here.
Great little car that got excellent gas mileage.

Just tell the salesman you'd like the same package with a gas engine and if it's offered in the model you want along with color and/or whatever else you like within the model lineup, they should be able to track one down and get it brought in for you to buy.
If for some reason later on you'd need a diesel then what's in front of you now will do of course.

Megacab is no longer offered with the HEMI. Diesel only.

I'm sorry to hear that, you'd think a gas option would be available but we don't get to decide what gets what, more or less.
All we can do is ask.

Noted there is also a "Lunar" edition 2500 that's supposed to be limited in production numbers.
Took a screenie of what the Ram site shows.
It's really just a different package from the others but doesn't look bad.
