That bar is called a Panhard bar or track bar. And it would have come out of the bracket within a second or two of the bolt coming out. I've been working on cars/trucks for ~50 years, and never heard of one of these bolts breaking. How about it guys? ANYONE ever hear of one of these bolts snapping?????

Main thing is: you're all safe and sound. No damage to truck. Major luck there.
Should be all set for as long as you own the truck....... :favorites13:
Thanks for the insight. The parts manager had never heard on one snapping either and neither did anyone in service. I was guessing on when it may have snapped and came out based on the speed and when the wild ride happened. I was doing a average speed of 70 mph on the freeway and the truck drove fine but when I hit 30 mph that afternoon oh boy was I holding on tight! Plus there was no grinding noise on the work commute or the initial run to Kroger until I turned to enter their gas station for a fill up.

Like I said before, I highly doubt it snapped, more than likely just worked loose because those need to be re-torqued after installation. It's good that they took care of you now, but in a couple weeks I would get under myself and make sure it's still tight. Preferably with a torque wrench.

I've torqued many, and never re-torqued, and never had a problem. Heck, on my Roush Mustang 625rwhp, I've had that bar in/out a bunch of times, and even installed new adjustable bar, never been re-torqued, and if any bar was gonna work loose, it's that one, haha. I do check it though..... ;)

But heck, you may be right. I still subscribe to the theory that the guy threaded the nut on loosely, and didn't tighten it at the end. Because as we all know, you do the final tighten when the vehicle is sitting unsupported on flat ground, so as not to preload the bushings. So I suspect he did everything correctly, but simply forgot to do the final torque/tighten after he had the vehicle sitting unsupported on flat ground.
