Any idea what this purple/white wire is? It's on the driver side rear near lights and tow hitch. It's on a 2012 Dodge Ram 1500.

It is a tap for the +12Vdc third (center) brake light if you had a truck cap/topper on the bed.

Could I use it to tap into for reverse portion of my tail gate LED light strip.

It will light up anything you want when the brake pedal is applied. It is not a constant hot. Whatever you hook to it, you still need to run a ground wire to frame ground
