I am really considering putting in one of Matts CAMs in my 2016 RAM R/T, would like to grab as much info as I can on this topic.

Who is running one of his Cams? Ether XTP or XSP? Is anyone running one on a 8spd? I would go with the XTP CAM for my R/T. Would the 8spd with 3.92 rcsb be OK for the XTP cam or would I still need to go 4.56?

Thanks!

3.92 with the 8-speed is a great setup and you'd be fine leaving it alone. The 6-speed is where you may want to swap the gears to 4.10/4.56.

I'll be running one of his cams on my truck and sticking with my 3.92 gears and 8-speed. Him and I have talked about it a couple times and come to the conclusion that it'll be a very strong setup.

The HPS which I'm assuming is what you mean by the XSP. But yeah I'll be running the street version not the track one.

Whoops, lol typo, I'm going with the XTP since I'm after all out performance with my R/T. Update us if you go with the HPS and how it all goes. I'm curious about the tuning since there's no dyno tuners near me. I think it can be done all though Sean at Hemifever.

Correct. When you purchase the cam you'll see an option to buy tuning for the cam with Hemifever.

And ofcourse haha. I'll share all my adventures with everyone on here.

For your 8sp truck, I would actually go with the HPS cam instead. The larger XTP cam doesnt make peak power until about 6500 rpms, and you cannot rev that high with the 8sp because of the lack of trans tuning. The HPS cam makes peak power right around 6000-6100 rpms which is perfect for the 8sp transmission.

How much power would the HPS cam add?

I dont like dyno's, so we test everything at the dragstrip instead. Based on gains that we have seen at the track, I'm guessing the HPS cam is giving us about 35-40hp/tq to the wheels.

How hard is the swap? I am pretty good with a wrench but I'm no engine builder.

It is a full day job for a mechanic and a weekend job for a novice that is doing it for the first time. The valve spring swap is the most tedious part of the install, but this job can be done by yourself in your garage.

Nothin like real world tuning...Same in the bike world,so many riders hit a dyno and then brag about the #'s and not how good its tuned or if the power is any good...
I have a woolich kit on my bike and its an awsome interface to show you were you need fuel in and out, where timeing could be tweeked ect ect......Wish kits like that were avail for the auto world..

Thank you! This is the kind of information I was looking for, that would make sense to me with the lack of tuning with the 8spd.

Hey, Matt. Did you have the HPS Cam in one of your personal trucks? If so how was it for DD?

HPS stands for High Performance Street. This cam was designed for the daily drivers that still want to have some fun at the track. I have only run the XTP in my personal truck, but everyone that has the HPS cam is using it in their daily drivers. Tq gains are noticeable in the low-mid rpms, and it pulls very hard up top all the way to peak power around 6200rpms.
