Hello all I have a 1991 D150 with a tbi 318 auto, I’m have a shot at buying a 440 bb for it. Has anyone done this swap before? Hoping to make it match my father’s big block truck. TIA

Main thing is the trans won't bolt up. Can go back to a 727 or 4spd manual... or maybe an adapter like Ultrabell or something like this

Also need a smaller brake booster for valve cover clearance. Every 3/4 or 1ton truck uses this type.

Otherwise the whole run of 72-93 trucks is mechanically identical. I landed a cummins in my '84 2wd ramcharger like it was Lego. Big block is probably less work and parts.

If you have a chance to buy a 440 for the truck and you are serious about doing the swap I would evaluate my fabrication and wiring/electrical skills first and then I would inventory all of my tools. If you can do some fabrication you can save yourself alot of time and money. The bellhousing adapters are pricey. Do some research and find yourself a 727B with the long tailshaft. This way it will bolt up to the 440. Fabricating a transmission mount is not that hard and getting a driveshaft made by a local driveshaft shop is just as easy. If you want to simplify the installation you can get rid of the column shifter and go with a cable operated floor-mounted shifter from one of many manufacturers. If you are not going to go with a manual valve body make sure you get the throttle valve connected and working properly so the transmission will upshift and downshift properly with the pedal.

I dont know what your skill level is when it comes to this type of work and I mean no harm. Let us know what the plan is and I am sure there are plenty of guys and gals here that can help.

I use to have 3 or 4 transmissions kicking around for the 440's, and had a 383 that was tuned up with headers, cam, intake. Ran very well.

But gave them all away at the farm sale few yrs back, Brother put one of the 440's in my old "57 Dodge 1/2 ton, steering box was the most problem, I had changed the suspension on it.
Of course you could drop in a hemi cw a 8 speed.
All yo need is a bucket of $$$$:)
