I have been tracking my fuel consumption since I bought my 2014 3500 SLT CTD with an app called Fuel Log Pro. Since I purchased the truck on March 31st I've driven 3938 miles with an average of 17.12 mpg. Almost all of that is highway, I have a high of 19.93 mpg and a low of 14.72 mpg (all in town).

I am in no way complaining about the milage, but my problem is this. Every single time I have filled up I reset the computer and let the truck calculate milage and every single time it registers as 2-3 mpg higher than actual real-world mpg when I fill up the next time. In addition, I reset the trip odometer the day I bought it and it is showing 19.6 mpg for the life of the truck.

Its not the end of the world, but it is really annoying that it is this far off. Anyone else have this problem or a fix?

Thanks.

I don't know if this applies to CTD but Rams estimated mileage is always displayed higher than real world #'s...at least in the two I've had, both Hemis

I find in my truck the MPG estimate is always off as well. Don't know what EVIC you have but in mine I have found the MPG estimate in the Trip A/B is more inline with hand calculated MPG. I reset my Trip A every fillup and my Trip B every oil change. Trip A is definitely more inline with hand calculated mpg than B for me. But I have a Hemi so I'm not sure if that makes a difference...

Every Mopar I've had is the same. It's accurately inaccurate...meaning it's consistently off by the same amount for the most part...for me anyway

Mine is consistently off by .5-1.5 mpg at each fill up. I am getting about 13mpg (2013 V8 4x4 CC 3.21 gears)

Yup, I've been using fuelly.com to track mine, and consistently off. The evic is usually high.

I believe the difference is the EVIC calculates the MPG on the imperial gallon, while you guys are calculating on the US gallon. Or vice versa? I'm not sure which one is bigger. But that would explain the difference.

Mine has shown 1mpg higher every time I've checked it.
Close enough for me.
Some guys have had 5 or 10+ mpg off.

Something else you need to consider is the computer is calculating fuel consumption constantly such as when the truck is idling. Calculating the miles by hand doesn't account for the time the truck idles. During the winter i let my truck idle a lot to warm up and noticed the evic was more off than during the summer when i hop in and go. This could be due to the winter vs summer blend of fuel to though. Thats my .02.

It seems to vary truck to truck. Mine has never been more than .6 off, and as close as .2 (always higher than Hand calc).

Calculating by hand DOES include idle time because you are dividing total miles by gallons consumed. Idling consumes fuel but no miles driven. Denominator increases but numerator doesn't thus MPG (M / G) goes down.
