Yeah, just make sure you abide by their requirements.
My selling dealer offers their own "lifetime powertrain warranty". A few major points in the fine print:
1. "Lifetime" is defined as 15 years. Probably a non-issue for most, but I kept my last truck until it was 16 years old.
2. I am required to have every "factory required" service performed at my selling dealer. But the dealer seems to have a different take on "factory required". It surely does not match the maintenance schedule in my owners manual. The owners manual doesnt show anything (other than oil changes and tire rotations) really getting done until 20K miles, yet Ive gotten plenty of emails from the dealer service department reminding me of upcoming "required" services. Ive had my truck for 14 months and it has 8400 miles on it.
3. I am required to bring the truck in for inspection every 5 years of ownership. They will send a card (maybe an email too, not sure) and I have to bring it in within a certain amount of the 5 year anniversary of my buying the truck
#2 is the biggie for me....if they are going to require I go to whatever service schedule they claim is factory, Ill end up paying a lot more for their services than I would have the MaxCare Lifetime (which I did purchase last year)
And FWIW, when I was negotiating the price of my truck, at one point we were arguing about 250.00. They offered to give me my price but would have to drop the powertrain warranty coverage. So essentially they were saying their warranty is worth 250.00. Makes you think.
