I know this has been dead for a while but my 18 started ticking around 6k miles now 14k. Cant hear it while driving but it is there at idle and I can even hear it sitting next to a building in a drive thru. I plan to take it in to the dealer next oil change. It has a lifetime warranty thru the dealer which they actually stand behind for the powertrain so I'm not worried. And I don't plan to change brand or weight of oil as it came with 3 years unlimited oil changes if the life was up so I'll be using that.

With all that warranty, yeah Id leave it alone.

FWIW my Hemi seemed quieter on Pennzoil conventional than their best synthetic (Ultra Platinum). Which I thought was odd.

That is odd. But with the dealer putting their neck out for a new engine for as long as I own it they can use whatever they see fit lol.

Yeah, just make sure you abide by their requirements.

My selling dealer offers their own "lifetime powertrain warranty". A few major points in the fine print:

1. "Lifetime" is defined as 15 years. Probably a non-issue for most, but I kept my last truck until it was 16 years old.

2. I am required to have every "factory required" service performed at my selling dealer. But the dealer seems to have a different take on "factory required". It surely does not match the maintenance schedule in my owners manual. The owners manual doesnt show anything (other than oil changes and tire rotations) really getting done until 20K miles, yet Ive gotten plenty of emails from the dealer service department reminding me of upcoming "required" services. Ive had my truck for 14 months and it has 8400 miles on it.

3. I am required to bring the truck in for inspection every 5 years of ownership. They will send a card (maybe an email too, not sure) and I have to bring it in within a certain amount of the 5 year anniversary of my buying the truck

#2 is the biggie for me....if they are going to require I go to whatever service schedule they claim is factory, Ill end up paying a lot more for their services than I would have the MaxCare Lifetime (which I did purchase last year)

And FWIW, when I was negotiating the price of my truck, at one point we were arguing about 250.00. They offered to give me my price but would have to drop the powertrain warranty coverage. So essentially they were saying their warranty is worth 250.00. Makes you think.

I agree you have to watch the requirements but since I usually keep mine a max if 3 years I can abide by their every 5k mile oil change since it is on their dime. Other than that I'm not to worried since it will likely be done before major issues.

If you keep it just 3 years the "lifetime" powertrain warranty is probably useless anyway. The truck comes with a factory powertrain warranty of 5 yrs/60K miles so you'll be covered.

I dont mind having my dealer do the oil changes, even if I pay for them. I just wish the Pennzoil products made my engine sound better than they do.

I just got hemi tick after my old change at my mechanic(1st time not using the dealer). Dealer said lifter needing oil. After 2-3k miles I, took it by for the tick & windshield washer sensor error. Found 2 bolt heads broken on #8 cylinder. Fixed & sounds good
