Does anyone have a photo of the front of their motor? I pulled the water pump, and because of life I couldn’t get back to it right away. So I just want to see how one bracket goes.

I'll try to snap a pic of my 92 318 tomorrow but with the fan shroud, not likely to get a good pic. can you post a pic of the bracket in question?

I am pretty sure it’s for the smog pump. But one side is longer than the other

can't get any better pic of my engine than what I can find on line. but that part is for the air pump. when I deleted mine, I threw that part away. it can be seen in this diagram.

Appreciate it. I’ll probably get back to it next weekend. I’ll let you know how it goes.

I started to get it back together but I’m stumped. I shouldn’t have waited this long or at least taken better pictures. I have these two brackets that need to go on still.

The upper part looks at the timing line on the harmonic balancer.

Got everything back together! No leaks! Going to have to replace the harmonic balancer, it is not "balanced" at all lol. Smog Pump is seized up and melted the belt to it. So I just cut the belt. I'll replace it before I get it smogged.

The first one goes at the bottom of the water pump. To check timing. You can see the rounded end inside the yellow picture. The bottom picture helps hold the AC and Alternator.

I had an '87 I had as a work truck. It was a Va State service truck and I bought it for $3000 back in '91 and used it till '98. Had the 360 4 bbl carburetor and automatic transmission. I really miss how simple they were. Nothing luxury, just a man's truck!

I’m loving it. I need to get it back in its proper form. Totally agree very simple, except two stupid little brackets

It is time to tackle changing the harmonic balancer. Has anyone changed one before? Looking for tips or do's/dont's.

it's been a while but I'm pretty sure it's straight forward as long as you're seal is good. use plenty of lithium grease on the seal when installing. just need plenty of room.

Probably have to remove the radiator then? Or is the fan enough?

I actually did a complete motor rebuild so I did my balancer with the motor out. But when I was trying to 'clock' the motor to TDC, there really wasn't much room to work even with the fan off. Can't easily reach the balancer from below because of the core support and anti-sway bar. So I ended up removing my radiator and fan shroud for more room and so I don't accidentally destroy the radiator. Luckily I hadn't filled it yet. I'd say if you're going to be using a puller and in general, may be better off pulling the radiator. Not much work plus you can give it a good flush while it's out.

Got the radiator out and the pulley off. Didn’t have the tool to pull the balancer out. Hopefully get that out soon.

This truck hates me.... I got the harmonic balancer out, got everything put back together. Still doing the disco down there. So if I am correct, my crank has gone bye bye....
