isn't a 339 oil filter is the 899 oil filter only miniaturized

i thought one of the reasons for that kit, was to use the larger filter ??

Yes, definitely. When I brought my truck to the mechanic and complained about ping, he told me to put "proper spec oil and filter" on the truck and try again, just to remove that as a possible cause. So last fall I put in the cheapest HPL 5w-20 oil I could find, with the small mopar oil filter according to spec, figured I'd hear the ping, he'd hear the ping, I could then dump it after a month and go back to proper oil/filter.

It didn't change the ping, but surprisingly it seems to have completely removed my cold start knocking that I was getting for 5 years. Ran it all winter, no cold start knock.

The past oil change (1 month ago) I switched back to HPL euro 5w-30 and a fram xg2 (the large one) and lo and behold my cold start knock is back. So now I'm trying to see what might be helping here, the filter or the oil. So that's why the small mopar is on again, need to run it for a number of weeks and see what it does.

Anyway, not only does the kit allow bigger filters but it also makes things quicker and cleaner. No mess, no oil dripping down into my 4x4 actuator harness etc.

Just to help anyone else who might stumble across this thread... last fall I had the pacbrake relocation kit removed and I have not heard it a single time since then. The culprit was the pacbrake. I did first try to zip tie stuff around to prevent vibrations between hoses and other components etc, I put rubber between the frame and the mounting plate to reduce vibrations/frequencys between the truck and the kit, nothing worked other than completely removing it.

I had also called Pacbrake and they confirmed that others had experienced the issue, and they told me to double check the lines were not crossed (input routed to output etc) which they weren't.

Thanks to all suggesting it was the kit.

I have the transdapt dual oil filter kit suggested by @Wild one here in my garage and I might try to get that installed at some point.
