This fuel tank re-calibration was a part of the auto-park update for the trucks that have the 32 gallon tanks.

The issue was that some year trucks were programmed to where the 32 gallon tank would read as if it was a 26 gallon tank. It was a mild annoyance, because the low-fuel warning really meant you had a LOT of fuel left in the tank.

This update did help!

From all the forum posts Ive read on the net, it looks like it was ALL years that never really got "good" 32 gallon programming. At least they finally fixed it.....now that 4th gens are "old".

You have me nervous, I had my update done last week and I drove around all day yesterday with the gas light on... The gas station will be my first stop when I head out today!

If you have a 32 gallon tank and the old programming you're probably more than fine - fill it up and it'll probably only take 26-27 gallons lol

If you have the new programming, you'll probably put 29-30 in if you're at the Low Fuel warning.

This was done along with the AutoPark recall (U05)

So the truck was definitely acting differently even though I checked my dealer receipt and had the cruise control recall done but nothing about AutoPark.

Since I have had the truck since new when it got to about 30 miles range it would dash out ''---'' and I could put 26 gallons or so into it. Today it went to 20 range and I put in 28, and still had about 70 miles of actual range left (figuring 17.5 MPG). I guess when I am going home after work tonight I will open my door and see if my truck gets pissed and goes into park.

The cruise control recall is completely separate from the auto-park recall - the autopark recall is a 3 hour reprogramming job.

So I took my truck in .. complained to the service writer about my low fuel light coming on at 1/4 tank and still having 6 plus gallons of fuel left... they did the recall that was pending for the auto park and said they did something with the fuel tank... I didn’t believe them and figured they didn’t address the fuel gauge issue... but we got the truck down under 1/8 tank and still no low fuel light... as it began to get closer to E - finally a low fuel light... headed to go fuel it up and it took around 28-29 gallons.... So I don’t know exactly what they did but it fixed it.

If you read the attached Autopark recall excerpt it mentions addressing the accuracy of the fuel gauge.250ff502bea62f55b9f5f88c114ae1c1.jpg

It just recalibrated the fuel tank sensor and the sending unit to more accurately gauge the fuel that's actually in the tank. Glad you had the same reaction I did - it's nice to actually be comfortable to use the 32 gallon tank as if it actually holds 32 gallons!

Not to hi-jack but what is auto park?

If you are in drive or reverse, and open the door with your seatbelt off with your foot off the brake it automatically puts it in park under a certain speed (less than 1mph). You can kind of cheat it by riding the brake pressure.... or just keep your seat belt on, or door closed.

Does this just apply to the rotary shifters and 1500's? My 2500 has the NORMAL column shifter, and as far as I know, autopark has never kicked in for me. It yells at me if I have the door open and put it in gear. Like the rest of you, my truck tells me it is empty with 5-6 gallons still left in the tank. I really want to get that fixed.

Yes, it is rotary shifter models, and only those that were equipped with the autopark functionality that wasn't enabled (it is because of the electronic shifter accidentally or failing to go into park, causing injuries/deaths). They simply are turning on a software controller for hardware that was factory installed but on enabled.

What gets me is, this clearly fixes an issue that all 32 gallon equipped 4th Gen Rams have, but since they only coupled it with the autopark recall, only a relatively small number of Rams will get this fix...

I am convinced they will never offer it on it's own because it isn't a safety issue, and they don't want to pay the shop time. But, what I do not get is, If this is the case, why didn't they couple it with every recall that comes up (cruise control recall), since these will already be in the shop.

They've recently added the autopark recall to the column shift trucks. My 2011 shows it pending, but parts not available yet. Found out when I took it in for the fuel tank recall (added a strap ).

Well, since I'm taking my '16 Reb back in for intermittent cruise control and rear camera function, I'll try to add this to the list...wonder what the SA will say about that?
