This is false!

OP, I say the 1500 with the 5.7L or 3.7L or 3.0L Ecodiesel if MPG is more important than acceleration and towing, and you don't have need to tow or haul anything like you say.

As far a fuel mileage, this is about what most actually get combined according to the hand calculated numbers on fuelly.com, and not the computer.

Ram 2500 6.7L Cummins - 15.5 mpg

Ram 2500 6.4L - 12.0 mpg

Ram 2500 5.7L - 12.0 mpg

Ram 1500 5.7L - 15.5 mpg

Ram 1500 3.7L - 18.5 mpg

Ram 1500 3.0L Ecodiesel - 22.0 mpg
Maintenance on the eco diesel is still more expensive, plus you need def and deal with that total system and the regeneration.

Okay you say it isn't worth it and maintenance cost more in an HD. What are the numbers?

First off diesel fuel is priced somewhere between mid grade and premium gas, secondly you don't use def in a gasser. There's been all kinds of issues reported with the Def system, the reason most people what to rip it out. As far as filter costs and actually getting a diesel mechanic instead of a glorified car parts changer to work on it you'll have to figure that out for yourself.

Get the 1500 and shop around.
The 6.4l 2500 is a beast. You won't enjoy driving it or trying to find a parking space for it when you go out.

You don't need 4x4 just a limited slip.

You can get a good deal on the 18 but the 19 is a better truck.

Dexter, why would you write in absolute terms this man won't enjoy driving or parking a 6.4 2500? YOU may not like it but how would you possibly know if he would? You would have snswered me the same way and I love driving and parking my 2500 CC 6.4 4X4 and mine has the 8' bed, making it longer than any other truck on the lot. I have no problems at all. Why? Because I can drive. I've had a 1500 5.7 hemi 4x4 QC 6'4" bed. Rode like a squishy big car. If I wanted that, I'd buy a '68 Caddy. You seem to have a little too much vested in this mans decision. Just sayin'.

For the tax thing its only on the 1500s, the 2500s dont get taxed because they weigh over 6000.
Currently looking in the areas I'm willing to travel to Ive seen pre tax prices at
2019 1500 5.7 $39k
2018 2500 6.4 $43k
2018 2500 6.7 $48-50k

I wont get to test drive anything until tuesday but I do think I definitely need to hop on that.

You're confusing me with someone that cares.

I'm sorry about the mistaken identity... people with their cranium inserted into their sphincter all look alike.

I wouldnt mind 13.5 local if I got about 20 babying it on the highway on a long trip. Are the 6.4 hemi and 6.7 cummins that close mpg wise? How is the 6.4 for longevity?

I'll be honest here. I've got right at 50000 miles on my 6.4. I work it hard as a work truck but it pulls double duty as a family vehicle too.

I get around 11 around town. That's stop and go traffic continuously. If my wife drives it for a few days it's around 9 or 10. She has a heavy foot.

Going to daytona running 70-75, i drove all highway and interstate. My dash was showing 18.5 but I hand calculates 16.5. Maybe if you only drove 60 you could squeak out 18mpg, but I doubt it. I have stock sized all terrains now and lost 1 mpg on the highway. I only got 15.3 last trip to daytona.

Mixed I average around 12-13 when I'm not towing and hauling.

If I didn't need a 2500, I would go 1500. The harsh ride and long wheel base makes it more of a chore to drive vs my dads 1500. His 1500 is also much for peppy and I like the 8 speed better than my 6 speed. I love my truck though and I'm not trying to talk you out of one, just telling my honest opinion. The 1500s are capable for what they are and, I don't understand how anyone could consider a smooth ride a negative on a vehicle.

I'm glad to know that you're the ultimate authority on what everyone needs or wants. Good luck with that.

I️’ve daily driven my lifted 2500 6.4 mega on 37’s for over 56k miles. 40 mile round trip commute to work, and multiple trips from PA to TX and FL. The only limitation to parking is height, but then again I️ don’t really frequent places that have parking garages.

IMO the mega cab really shines when you add some bodies and gear. I️ came from a 1500 CC and although it’s capable I️ like the feeling of better stability with the equivalent loads.

Every time the talk of another hunting road trip comes up the guys want to pay extra to take my truck .... and these guys have new F250’s ... the extra room makes a difference on long trips.

I agree with you. Parking these trucks become a chore. I can do it with the best of them. Shoot I usually have a dump trailer hooked up to mine, but I'll never say I enjoy having to make wide turns or back into a parking spot.

I like my 6.4L Hemi, but I will say that oil changes are significantly more expensive in my truck than they are in the 5.7.

The oil is easily double the price.

fwiw, if you buy them in packs at the dealer it's not too bad. I think I pay around $65 and usually get around 7500 miles between them. I usually go in when the oil-o-meter on the DIC is around 15-20%. I'm not sure what the 5.7 costs.
