New update: dealer couldn’t figure out the problem, called Chrysler engineers and they couldn’t figure out the problem, so dealer is ordering a new transmission per Chrysler’s recommendation. Obviously I’m very upset as my 1 week old truck needs a replacement tranny, so I’ve called Chrysler and started a case with them. Waiting on a call back from 2019 management staff and am lobbying for a substitution of collateral to replace my truck. It’s completely unacceptable to have a replacement tranny after a week of ownership.

So you made it to Key West and back then it happened again?

I have to agree with another poster that said its a bit much to say that them putting a whole new transmission in is unacceptable. First that is exactly what the warranty is for. Nothing is perfect, there are manufacturing flaws and they basically flat out admit that by providing a warranty. Its not like They are giving you the run around, they authorized a new transmission.

2nd you bought the first run of a completely redesigned new generation truck. There are reasons why many people say over and over again never buy the first year. Let them work out the kinks and then buy one. There is so much software and electronics in vehicles these days and everything has to communicate back and forth from many modules to work properly.

Nothing wrong with that- a new transmission. I know it’s a drag but after all, this is model year 1. Be glad they stepped up and did the right thing. Once you get it back and hit the gas (and it goes) you’ll again remember why you love this truck.

I agree about not worrying. It’s a brand new transmission. Assuming they do a good job getting it in then you have no worries. In the end it’s not different than a new truck with a new transmission.

You could ask for some compensation for it being out of service but that’s about it. Ask for a new accessory or something.

^^true, nowadays it might be best to wait 2 years of a new redesigned vehicle.

My '14 has an 8HP70, according to the RAM build site the '19 gets an 8HP50 or an 8HP75 depending on engine, so there appears to some sort of difference.

Calm down it’s probably electrical. These transmissions are mass produced and mated to the engine prior to the installation in the frame.
I know it sucks that it happened to you but it could’ve happened to me or the neighbor.
Relax demand a loaner for the duration of the repair process. It will be ok.
Some times **** HAPPENS.
But it’ll be ok

The 8HP50/8HP75 are the second Gen transmissions of the 8HP transmissions and are rated for higher torque ratings. They are also used in BMWs, Austin Martins, Rolls Royces, etc. just like the previous generation.

Thank you for posting this. I bought my brand new Laramie last night and drove it off the lot to the gas station (Since the dealer would only give me half a tank) and my truck did the same thing. It smelled like it was burning and I ended up having to have it towed to the dealership. Service opens 45 minutes so I’ll see what they have to say. Not impressed so far.

sucks to see this happen, but I will refer you back to my post #22 in this thread. This is exactly why new vehicles have warranties.

I hear ya. It just sucks when it breaks down right as you drive it off the lot and you don’t know when you’ll get it back. Dealership has been pathetic when it comes to customer service. I think I owned the truck for about 20 minutes before breakdown. At least they gave me a loaner but it’s stripped down Jeep with no power windows.

I’m reviving this thread. My brand new 2019 has this problem. On the 5th gen other site, there is a huge thread about this problem. And....I actually have a vid of it happening. I figured there was no chance it would ever do it at the dealership so I recorded it. I have been gone for a week and the dealer has had the truck the whole time. As expected, they could, not get it to do it so they say they “reinitialized” the transmission. I’m confident it will be going back to the shop. I personally don’t like problems with a new truck but know that sometimes it happens. If it gets a new transmission, that’s not a problem for me. What IS a problem for me is the fact that this problem has existed in these vehicles since last summer and the problem has not been fixed! One guy on the other thread had this happen on his garage while his wife was walking in front of the truck. It popped into gear and nearly pinned his wife between the truck and the garage. It’s like the (now) ****** Uconnect that has had Problems since they switched manufacturers in 2017 model year. STILL not fixed? Really..after 3 model years??? THAT is unacceptable. I’m sure I will be back at the dealer and hope this truck doesn’t wind up being the one I lemon law after purchasing 23 FCA vehicles in 10 years. Everything else about the truck is spectacular.

Here’s the vid of it happening in action:

I have also had it to where the Auto Parking Break won't disengage going from Park to Drive as I have that feature turned on in a Laramie.

Thanks everyone for your input. Miraculously, I was able to find a dealership 30 minutes away that can work me in at 3pm today to hook my truck up to a "pod" he calls it which will outline any potential issues like a software update, low tranny fluid, etc. His initial guess is that it is low on tranny fluid which is causing a slight delay in the clutch packs engaging. When I slightly rev the truck up to around 2k RPM's, its building the pressure and circulating the fluid enough to engage. Of course, they will know more when they hook it up to the pod, but I hope that the simple fix is low tranny fluid. It makes sense in theory since it's not throwing a code for anything electrical. He said that if the tranny fluid was too low, it would def throw a code so he doesn't see any harm being done in the interim and hopes that the pod shows nothing more than minimal low tranny fluid that is a quick fix. In saying that, those of you that have a new '19 might want to have your dealership check your tranny fluid level next time just in case. It's a closed unit, so the only way you can check is have the dealer hook it up. More to follow, but fingers crossed this is a simple fix.

Edit: Another dealer says it could be a bad throttle body inside the tranny, which the simple fix is to drop the tranny pan, replace part, and refill. I hope it's either that or simply low on tranny fluid. Fingers crossed either way.

why did it not mark a code for low tranny fluid then>> its a sealed system so it should show some thing about the tranny if its low on their mopar fluid if so they have a problem with a leak also
