Just got my truck from the dealer after getting a new 6.4 Hemi put in (Lifetime Maxcare Warranty thank God) and checked the oil after a few hundred miles and it was about 1.5 qts low. This seems pretty extreme but I can't remember if it's to be expected in a brand new engine. Unfortunately, I didn't check the oil when I got the truck back so it's possible the dealer left it low but that's hard to imagine (or maybe not....). Anyway, I'll definitely keep an eye on it and it's still under warranty anyway but am curious if anyone thinks 1.5 qts is extreme for a new engine after just a few hundred miles?

Does it have a pcv or that internal pcv? Try and get a catch can on that.

No available catch can for the 6.4. I’ve only seen one person make his own but have yet to see a production catch can. But either way I think 1.5 qts is excessive.

Hopefully it was just underfilled and didn’t hurt anything.

Dealer underfilled, likely. Do your own OC and monitor.

It is very likely they just underfiled it happens all the time from dealers/oil change places.
