We will hopefully be getting a camper soon. My plan is to change the rear coils. I dont mind a stiffer ride, as I feel the ride is too soft. If I replace the rear coils, is it recommended to also do the fronts as well? I am also going to level the front. With your first hand experience, what would be good coils to go with? I am only planning on a camper with a dry weight of 4000# at the most. I already have a WDH as well. I also plan on new shocks as well. Looking for a good all around set up for a lighter camper. Thanks

My recommendation is the Eibach Pro lift kit. It comes with 4 shocks and coils. It will give you some lift/level and handle on and off road much better than stock.

How will it be with a camper?

I just moved recently and had a fridge in the bed and towing uhaul 5x8 enclosed trailer running the eibach springs in my truck. Truck handled well. Not near 4,000lbs but better than I expected. Had a full bedroom set, clothes, other bedroom items, and whatever else I could fit. Truck was squated almost 2”. My truck sits lifted 3/1 with 35s. Nick is great and can answer whatever questions you may have. He helped my buy my parts. Although there are tuftruck coils that are designed for heavier loads all the time as well for doing just the rear and just run adjustable struts up front for leveling. Could also add airbags if that suits your needs better.

For under 4,000lbs it should behave similar to stock but the benefit will be a better overall ride under all circumstances. Plus the front part of the kit will give you the lift/level you are lookin for.

You could look at "Sumo Springs" for the rear as an alternative. They replace the bump stops and are only in effect when youo load the bed/add tongue weight.
I did those and am happy with how the truck pulls my TT.

I replaced my rear springs with Tuftruck springs. My trailer is 33' long, 7500lbs loaded, and 1100 tongue and they do help. I also use an Equalizer hitch.

I have Tufftruck 1211s and feel that the Bilstien 5100s set on 2.8 complement them well , as they firm up the front some.

Is it a good idea to replace the front coils as well? I still need to level the front, and look to do all of it at the same time. Thanks

Nothing wrong with doing fronts but it's going to do little/nothing to help your towing experience. 98% of the trailer tongue weight goes on your rear. Stiffer springs in back is a good idea. Airbags are also a good option. Leveling kits and towing don't always play nice together since with towing you're often fighting rear end squat and that's essentially what a leveling kit is making worse.

That completely makes sense. I may just go with new shocks in the front and new shocks and springs in the rear. I read that the 1211's are shorter than the stock springs. Will that be a problem when it comes to replacement shocks and their fit? Thanks

If you replace the rear coils you do not need to do anything with the front. If you want a firmer ride all the time, or are towing the trailer a lot the firmer rear springs would be fine. However, with a 4,000 lb. trailer and WDH setup it shouldn't be necessary by any means

I cant remember if mine were shorter or not but it did not effect the height or the need for a different lenght shock.

Your 1500 is likely a completely different beast than my 2500 but my shocks and fitting are a total PITA from what I've found. I'm still running the originals at 100K, 6+ years so I suppose I should look at changing them but just don't want to deal with it. I've read a bunch of threads on here of guys having to saw them in half to get them off the truck! No thanks!

In my fairly extensive towing experience shocks are going to do about 5%... suspension, WDH, etc. are going to do 95%. Nothing wrong with swapping shocks but just don't expect miracles with towing. I'd be doing them far more for general ride quality.

I would like to stiffen the ride up some. On the interstate hitting potholes, it can get squirrly sometimes. Besides the different rear springs I am planning on, I would like a setup that will absorbed the rough roads better. Just have to pick a good set of shocks to go with it.

I like my Ram but I wish it rode and worked more like my past trucks.

You don't have nearly enough truck for a camper that heavy. A 3500 qclb at the least is necessary. If it's a gas engine, not enough engine. Get on Truck Camper Magazine and Cummins Forum. My Northstar TC800 is 2300# wet and it sits on my '07 2500 standard cab with suspension and a Cummins 5.9. I could do a lighter hardsided but that's it. Look at the payload capacity for your vin#

He's talking about a travel trailer not a slide in camper.
