Hi, please forgive me if this question has been answered elsewhere. I searched the forum, but struggled to find an answer.

I have a 2003 1500 quad cab that is making a clunking noise on the front driver's side when hitting any type of hole or bump. It literally sounds like the truck is going to fall apart. It's got just around 64,000 miles on it.

I believe I have narrowed down the problem to the sway bar end links, but not sure if I need to replace the links or just the bushings? Is this something I can do on my own? I'm no mechanic, but I've done basic repairs on my vehicles and prefer not to take things to a mechanic if I don't have to. Anyone have a "how-to" bookmarked anywhere?

Thanks for your help,
Emily

Hi Emily - if you're having problems with the sway bar links, that would be an easy and inexpensive fix.

Here's a link to my question on the same thing and the responses I got: http://www.ramforum.com/f45/newbie_-_what-31810/

Parts were less than $60 for grease-able sway bar links and the replacement took less than an hour (both sides).

Hope this helps.

Oh yeah - forgot to mention that prior to replacing the sway bar links my truck front end sounded like it was going to rattle completely apart every time I hit a pothole, speed bump, depression in the pavement, etc...

This simple part stopped the rattling and smoothed out my ride. Prior to doing that I had changed out the lower control arms, sway bar bushings and put in new shocks thinking those were the problems.
