We have a rollbak retractable cover and absolutely love it.

Even had someone unsuccessfully try to break into the bed at a train station parking lot. They damaged the rubber seal that extends from the end of the cover to the tailgate, but did not gain entry.

Others in the lot had their soft covers slashed...now I’m not the only one in the lot with this cover [emoji3]

Hi, just bought my first RAM truck yesterday. 2017 1500 4x4 CC Limited, 5.7 Hemi. I need to put a bed cover on it, and I want to go with a retractable style. I know there are a few to choose from. Retrax,, Roll and Lock and Pace Edwards all come up on a Google search. What is the consensus here on the forum? Any advice certainly appreciated. Thx

I went with the Retrax One MX retractable tonneau cover after looking at a lot of reviews. The "One" is a polycarbonate construction as opposed to the all metal of the "Pro".

It fits my needs just fine. The "MX" means the finish is a matte black. If you get the non "MX" it will be gloss black finish.

I'd strongly advise you also get a tailgate seal as the gaps in the tailgate for water penetration are substantial. I went with the Extang MaxSeal....

Off topic question, but what tint % is your back window? Sorry I don’t mean to thread jack

I bought a Tyger soft tri fold off Amazon. $229 with prime shipping. Zero leaks thru two hurricanes, no issues what so ever.

I have had three trucks with a BakFlip cover. Easy install and do not leak. Will pick up my new Ram truck today and will transfer my cover on my 2015 to my new truck. There may be others that are as good, but I will stay with what has worked well for me.

Bakflip G2 here! I’m bias and the truck came with it when I bought it but had it not had a cover I would probably still buy any of the Bak models or undercover. I looked at both prior to buying this particular truck and those were my top choices.

I had PE as first cover back in late 90,s it was not to write home about at all. In late 80,s I put a Manual Roll N Lock on a Ram it was awesome!! Got a newer Ram in 2011 got the Electric Remote Roll N Lock and it was JUNK!! Over priced Junk!!! Bought a 2014 Ram in 2014 New put a Retrax Pro on it! WOW!!! What a great Cover no trouble what so ever in 4 years!!! Works great! Snow and ice works great! Never have even replaced battery in remote! Next new truck will have Retrax! Hope that helps.

Nice thing about our trucks is the huge tailgate protector. Even if someone attacks the cover with some aggressive tactics they are not likely to damage anything that can not be easily replaced.a9c0e5983943250b2d341e924f8b1837.jpg

Well I just completed my journey searching for the perfect cover and finally settled on the RetraxPro MX. Read everything, talked to buddies with covers and watched way to many videos. in the end it comes down to what you need most and are willing to pay. I didn’t need an electric one, liked being able to lock anywhere along the rails and the all metal construction. Everyone has their own opinion based on what’s worked for them so it’s hard to judge based on experiences, just the way it works. Good luck on your decision, darn near drove myself nuts trying to figure it out. Mine comes next week, almost over lol! I got mine from Morrie at Tonneau Factory Outlet, great experience!
Buy yourself a garden hoe to leave in the bed. With high ground clearance you can reach almost anything without climbing. Guy at big box stores always say "Wish I thought of that".

You need to decide what you're using it for I guess. My vehicle is a daily driver...with no commercial intentions. It provides me with the security I need, but I'm not storing expensive contractor tools in it. If I was, I'd probably opt for the "Pro" version just for the added strength.

Here is some information about polycarbonate that might be useful to you.
https://www.creativemechanisms.com/blog/everything-you-need-to-know-about-polycarbonate-pc

I've had snow loads on top of the cover on a few occasions and the cover had no issues.

I was actually going to get the One MX but a couple of factors swayed me to the Pro. I’ll be keeping a couple of sets of expensive golf clubs and gear in there first off, more peace of mind I guess. Second I’d seen a few reviews of the polycarbonate cover warping in high temps and here 105+ is not unheard of in the summer so I passed on poly. Those may have been a few exceptions but with my luck I wasn’t taking chances. Real nice looking rig btw!

No Kidding, BAK Industries Revolver X2 Hard Roll-up Truck Bed Cover 39207 2009-18 DODGE Ram W/O Ram Box 5' 7" is awesome. It isn't retractable but rolls up, has aluminum slats for strength. I bought mine used for like 300 off amazon. You have to check periodically to catch the killer deals. Most of the time you have to type is my model number to find on amazon.

After considering all options, including cost, I did elect to get the revolver X2, I thought about waiting for the new X4 model, but did not sound like there was going to be much difference and I was able to buy the X2 at a discounted price. I should receive it in a few days. Thanks for all the input.

Good choice, the Revolver was on my short list too. I liked it but the wife didn’t like having to roll-n-click. Oh well huh.

If cost were no object, my first choice would’ve been the Retrax Pro. My last pick up at a truxedo on it, and it actually worked just fine, so I knew I would not be bothered by the rollup. I like the idea of the more secure aluminum cover while still having the soft look and also the locking sides with no Velcro. Bed covers are one of those things, where luckily there are a lot of good options.

Yeah on the X2, depending on what X2 you get you can get into it with a flat head from the back. They slip the flat head from the back and pull the wire down. I fixed this the 2nd day I had it because it seems obvious. I did a few things to fix this.

1. Buy a metal mending plate long enough to cover entire opening.

(Example of what I am talking about)
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-3-in-Steel-Zinc-Plated-Mending-Plate-4-Pack-13612/203170049

2. Get a glue that will stick to plastic and Metal, sure an Epoxy would work.
3. Duct Tape.

You glue the Mending Plate to the opening facing away from the truck of course.
Duct Tape with small stips to keep in place.
Take some duct tape and fold over itself to create a 3-4 inch thick buffer. (Literally fold over itself length ways)
Tape this to the front of the Mending Plate (To cover holes)

Now your stuff cant be defeated by a flat head!

The Newer X2's have a guard already but if your doesn't here is an idea!
