Hi, just bought my first RAM truck yesterday. 2017 1500 4x4 CC Limited, 5.7 Hemi. I need to put a bed cover on it, and I want to go with a retractable style. I know there are a few to choose from. Retrax,, Roll and Lock and Pace Edwards all come up on a Google search. What is the consensus here on the forum? Any advice certainly appreciated. Thx

Well I just completed my journey searching for the perfect cover and finally settled on the RetraxPro MX. Read everything, talked to buddies with covers and watched way to many videos. in the end it comes down to what you need most and are willing to pay. I didn’t need an electric one, liked being able to lock anywhere along the rails and the all metal construction. Everyone has their own opinion based on what’s worked for them so it’s hard to judge based on experiences, just the way it works. Good luck on your decision, darn near drove myself nuts trying to figure it out. Mine comes next week, almost over lol! I got mine from Morrie at Tonneau Factory Outlet, great experience!

I've had 3 and they've all been good. Locks in a few different positions and onto the tailgate. Fairly weatherproof, but a little moisture gets in from the sides and around the tail gate since I don't have a tailgate seal.(too hard to clean out when I haul dirt, gravel and bark mulch) takes a little maintenance to keep the latches from freezing in the winter. My neighbor has a retrax pro with the metal slats instead of the vinyl cover over aluminum that mine has and it's a lot harder to open in the winter with our humidity it seems to glue all the slats together with ice. His is just as weather tight though.IMG_20171126_120420(1).jpg IMG_20171126_120427.jpg IMG_20171126_120420(1).jpg

Not sure why the pics aren't showing up. I see them when I pull up the thread. I have the pictures posted on another thread in a different format. The thread is Tonneau covers

I just ended up with a bakflip g2 and bak box because I wanted storage with my cover. If I wasent worried about storage i may have gone with a artic white cover made by peragon it's a pretty unique cover and seems to have good reviews along with paint matching. It's similar to a roll up cover but not quite, also starts at $699. Might be worth a look

I'm looking at the bakflip g2 & fibermax. Leaning towards the fibermax, as it is more durable to a scratching & dents...

My $.02. I have the bak fibermax on my 2013 since new. I got the cover because I wanted some extra security for bed contents for trips (hard cover vs. vinyl). I can never keep the bed dry even after making adjustments on the rails (my brother has the same issue with his Silverado and he had his replaced 2x). Its not much water but it seems to get in. After 4 years now the rubber seals on the rails are all cracking because of the age and seasonal temp. changes. The tailgate seal occasionally freezes to the tailgate also (not a big minus). I take a shim and run in it down the length of the seal and its free.

I went with the Retrax One MX retractable tonneau cover after looking at a lot of reviews. The "One" is a polycarbonate construction as opposed to the all metal of the "Pro".

It fits my needs just fine. The "MX" means the finish is a matte black. If you get the non "MX" it will be gloss black finish.

I'd strongly advise you also get a tailgate seal as the gaps in the tailgate for water penetration are substantial. I went with the Extang MaxSeal....

What do you think about the poly carbonate? I would like to save money but want to be sure it is sufficient. I’m not familiar with it.....

You need to decide what you're using it for I guess. My vehicle is a daily driver...with no commercial intentions. It provides me with the security I need, but I'm not storing expensive contractor tools in it. If I was, I'd probably opt for the "Pro" version just for the added strength.

Here is some information about polycarbonate that might be useful to you.

I've had snow loads on top of the cover on a few occasions and the cover had no issues.

Thank you for the quick reply. Last question, after you put the tailgate seal on is it fairly watertight?

Ya for the most part. When I go through a touchless wash in the winter, I'll usually find a few drops if water have been forced through. The design of the Ram tailgate won't allow the seals on the sides of the tailgate to be continuous from top to bottom.

I had to cut the seal on the sides to get a better fit. I can post pics later after I get some errands run.

Without research I purchased a Truxedo roll up cover. It works fine. Keeps my cargo hidden and safe. Rolls up in about 10 seconds. I'm sure there's nicer ones, but mine gets the job done and looks 9/10 after being outside every night in midwest weather for 1 year.

Bought this original access cover from a co worker (for 50 bucks ill add :peace:) and even though the sides dont stick down all the way because the velcro is faded white, but each time I go through a car wash no water gets into the bed until i roll up the cover to where only a few splashes make their way in, but as far as rain and snow have gone, nada, now dust on the other hand always finds its way in.

My dad had a Roll N Lock on his 2011. He got rid of the truck for a 2017 and I inherited the Bed cover for my 2014. It is still working good. Love this bed cover.
