I have a new squeaking sound that started in the last month. It seems to be coming from under the driver's side of the dash and sounds like plastic rubbing against metal. The squeak is not continuous and can happen when I hit a bump in the road, or I am on smooth pavement. I have tried to find it by seeing if anything is loose under the dash to no avail and I do not believe its coming from the engine bay.

Any advice to try and find this annoying squeak would be greatly appreciated.

This is one of those noises that requires patience to find. The way I go about stuff like this in a customers truck or my own is not always an option for most non-mechanics. I start by removing trim panels one at a time and then attempt to duplicate the noise.

When it comes to the instrument panel I do the same thing. I remove the A-pillar trim first. Then the panel on top closest to the windshield. Then the instrument panel end caps. Then the knee blocker below the steering column. The the sill panels. Then the piece below the center stack at the carpet. I keep going until I isolate the sound or eliminate it.

Your noise may not be coming from a trim panel but it could be related. Since you said it sounds like plastic touching metal pay close attention to those areas on your truck like the inner fender liners. Check for loose fasteners. Check the battery hold down. Radiator/fan shroud and E-Fan bolts.

I decided to take a look under the hood today and found that a zip tie holding some of the auxiliary light wires and cb radio power supply had come loose. One of the wires in a plastic loom had started rubbing on the lower control arm. A new zip tie and I'm no longer hearing the squeak!
