I've got a 2014 1500 Outdoorsman. The stock tire is a 265/70R17 LT Goodyear and I'm looking to replace it with a Cooper Discoverer AT3. My question is, is it dumb to buy non-LT tires? I will be towing a 6x12 utility trailer cross country that will weigh probably 3000 lbs max, but that is all the towing I'll do in the near future. I'll also probably have some weight in the bed too, but not more than 1000 lbs. I'm just wondering if the extra cost per tire, weight, and ride comfort are worth it to go with the E tire or if I should downgrade to less ply.

I dont do near as much as you and have KO2s on my truck. Just cant imagine a truck without truck tires. The reinforced walls and tread also put my mind at ease with small things that could otherwise puncture the tire

I just replaced the original 265/70/17 load e Goodyear AT on my 12 Outdoorsman with load range e KO2's in a 285/75/17. I don't pull trailers or haul super heavy loads very often but I would rather have load e and not need them than not have them and find myself with that one load...

I went with P-Metric Toyo AT 2 and love em - occasionally pull a 2 horse trailer and spent a ton of time on forest service roads last summer with no issues. And they just got me through a nasty snow storm.

This is exactly what I have been thinking. Like, what if I bought a camper or something?... Thanks for the responses.

I was always apprehensive to run P rated tires on a truck.

On my 07 Sierra the OEM tire was a 265/70/17 C load range. Got a deal on some P265/70/17 Grabber AT2s and the load range was actually higher than the OEM spec.

My 17 crew ram specs P265/70/17 and I replaced with P265/70/17 grabber AT2s again, load range was higher than the OEM tires.

I towed with both trucks, and run fire roads at speed. I used to be in the “gotta be an LT tire for a truck” camp. I proved myself wrong.
