I haven't tried that yet, I didnt even know you could turn the MDS off. I'll have to give that a try. Thanks for the tip. Have you noticed a difference in fuel consumption since you turned the MDS off?

Can't say for certain since it has been so long since I have let MDS turn on. Even if I lose a couple MPG running MDS off it is worth it to me. The pedal feels too laggy and being straight piped I get an odd drone when it kicks on.

There are quite a few threads that discuss the difference in economy with it on vs off and it is a pretty negligible difference if I remember correctly.

I got the same thing seems most have this problem. I went to the dealer and they reflashed the trans computer. But still notice the problem. Well my thought is at least I now have it down on paper with Ram that this problem is on my Truck. They called it in the dealer the two one stop problem. My Ram has the 3.92 rear in it

My 18’ 1500 2wd with 3.21 has this issue happen a lot especially in stop and go traffic. Very irritating considering the price of the truck.

I would bring it up at the next dealer visit. Lord knows with all of these recalls you will be there shortly. Got to take mine in for it's 2nd airbag clock spring. Steering wheel clicking is annoying.
Tried 2x with FCA opening a STAR case. Never got it resolved. New truck, oil change at 6k, system update & now it happens often & intermittently. Annoys the crap out of me at 43k. Seriously considered filing lemon law

Brought my 2014 5 times no cure at all. Same problem with my 2018. Botha trucks worked great for 10,000 miles then started to bump at stops very noticeable. They need to solve this problem or quit selling the 8 speed trannys

I am only at 2500 miles. I have noticed the tranny down shifts when coming to a stop, and that I can feel it depending on how hard I brake. It feels just like a down shift in a standard. Its noticeable but IMO its light and just tells me the tranny is doing its job. Will this get worse? Does it get to the point of feeling like someone pulled a standard in to 2nd while braking and dump the clutch so the truck lurches physically as the RPMs jump up?

My dealership also told me it’s a characteristic of the tranny when it first happened I thought I was tapped in the back by someone but no one was behind me service advisor stated dash would light up like a Christmas tree if there was a “problem “ also said the tranny learns based on your driving habits sounds like a bunch of BS to me but I bought CPO 2015 Hemi 8spd so I’m good until 100k on Powertrain
So not as concerned right now I’m at 67k
Was at dealer last night looking at 2019 Laramie 55.9k sticker got em down to 42k Laramie crew can hemi
But they don’t have any with bucket seats and it’s a deal breaker for me

I noticed mine doing it today a bit. Didn't know I could turn off the MDS. I will give this a try tomorrow.

I always assumed it was the need to grease splines on driveshaft yet have been too lazy to take it off and test.

This has been shown to fix the issue on others trucks. THIS would be the first thing I did to see if it would fix it.
Either mine doesn't do it or I don't notice it.

Sorry to hear. Mine works great but is in the shop now for airbag clock spring again. I am worried the new flash for recalls will have my tranny acting up.

Update:

So, I've tried everything you guys have suggested, other than greasing the splines on the drive shaft, so I suppose that is my next step.

I tried turning off the MDS by using the gear select and selecting D8, and I tried using the tow/haul mode. I felt no difference either way.... tranny still shifts hard when downshifting and jumps at the 2:1 shift.

I did notice though that my eco light never comes on. Even when in standard D. I didnt know I had one until you guys pointed it out. Read on another forum that in order to see the eco light I need to play with settings and "activate" or something, in order for the light to turn on. So I'll try that. But I also read that the "eco" light doesn't necessarily coincide 100% with the MDS. It's more of a fuel consumption thing. And the light turns on when your above a certain mpg. So just because the light is on doesn't always mean you have dropped to 4 cylinders.

So anyways.... the hunt for the fix is still on, thanks for all the help guys

Bubba: Keep us posted. About the only thing I haven’t tried yet is greasing the spines of the drive shaft. After the most recent recall flashes my tranny improved for a while but the hard downshifts quickly returned after a week or so.

My truck is currently at the dealer getting a new driveshaft and an intake manifold (unrelated). This is the third visit within 3 weeks for the issue and they did a trans update and quick learn which didn’t help any. I can let you know if the new driveshaft fixed mine once i get it back.

Mines a 2015 with 44K on it and I have this issue. I too bought CPO and have a 100K power train warranty so I have a little piece of mind if the transmission does go (thinking about buying the warranty through mopar to extend it to 125K because of this issue). I've brought it into the dealer 3-4 different times for it and I of course cant get it to duplicate the issue when I'm there and they said they cant do anything about it if there isn't a issue when I bring it in. I've noticed though it doesn't do it as bad when I park on flat level ground over night. Then for the most part it's pretty smooth it still can get a little jerky and annoying / uncomfortable but not as bad. I'm wondering if its a transmission oil level issue because at my house where I park in my driveway it has a natural little slope to it so my truck is at an angle and parked overnight. Anybody else park at an angle and have this issue? Or are you guys parking on a level surface and still having this issue?

I park on level surface, maybe a 2% grade, and I have the issue.

I also purchased brand a new 2016 Dodge Ram 1500 Outdoorsman, 3 years ago. It’s an 8 speed. I just broke 50,000 Km.

In the beginning it did not have the bump you described. As time went on it began to do it. I have had it at the dealership multiple times since it started doing it. It almost feels like you’re being hit from behind as you’re coming to a stop.

They have tried to reset the driving pattern history. They have replaced valves in the trany. This last time they replaced the transmission with a brand new one. It still does it.

I took it back to the dealership yet again but have not been given an answer on what they are going to do.

I also started to do some research once I begin to have this happen. I did find a thread in this forum where a gentleman was explaining it feels like when you tow and the surge breaks kicks in. I would have no clue because I’ve never towed anything before. I did mention it to the dealership and they just discounted it. Saying it’s an issue with the transmission.

Since talking to people about this bumping issue. I have been told by more then one person that it’s to do with the transmission being an eight speed. That it’s actually a BMW transmission that Dodge started to use. One person was the mechanic at the dealership. Which mention also I am not the only person that purchased a truck there and having this issue. So they are aware it’s a problem. They will make you jump through hoops.

Got my truck back on Wednesday after having the driveshaft replaced. The bump is gone so far. Paperwork says the slip joint was hanging up so they replaced the driveshaft. Hope this doesn’t need to be replaced after another 15-23k miles. Truck is under a year old.
