Hey guys, I've been lurking around on here for about month reading through the threads and learning about the Ram's before I went and got one. And I THOUGHT I had done my homework and knew quite a bit about these trucks.... however, I just brought home my new to me 2016 Ram 1500 4x4 crew cab last night and noticed the "jump" or "lurch" or "bump" when coming to a stop....

I didnt notice it during the test drive at all.... tranny was smooth and fine. But after it warmed up, it "jumped" every single time I came to stop.

So I stopped for dinner and did a quick Google search, turns out.... I'm not as good at doing homework as I thought, and this is a very common, very annoying occurence, that I could not find a solution for while searching.

Can someone point me in the right direction? Is there already a thread devoted to this issue?

Thanks guys

Dealership told me that it's just a characteristic of the 8spd tranny.

They did a tranny relearn on mine. And smoothed it out temp. But it still kicks sometimes now.

That's where a trans tune comes in

Which gears do you have? I don't think it should be that bad on the trucks with 3.21's.

Sorry, just filled out my signature, I've got the 3.92's

Yeah you did, you got it all in there, hah. I think some form of bumping is normal with the 3.92's. I have to come to a complete stop and let the 8speed drop down to 1st or it lugs badly off the line in 2nd. For you it might be smoother to keep it rolling a little. Obviously not possible at some intersections. Some slightly taller tires may soften it a little?

Mine does it too. 8 speed and 3.92s. I've had the truck for about 4 months now, so I'm pretty much used to it.

The only thing that seems to help is slamming on the breaks. Today I was testing out different ways of coming to a stop and I also noticed that when I'm breaking really slowly and gently that I can feel every downshift and its pretty jerky. Which makes me think it's a tranny issue

I always assumed it was the need to grease splines on driveshaft yet have been too lazy to take it off and test.

I would bring it up at the next dealer visit. Lord knows with all of these recalls you will be there shortly. Got to take mine in for it's 2nd airbag clock spring. Steering wheel clicking is annoying.

Hi BubbaGump,
We understand why this may be concerning. We suggest having your dealer inspect this concern if you have not done so already. We are also available via private message if you would like any additional assistance during that process.

Welcome to the forums, I am an Arizona guy too.

My truck does the same thing but not as often as it seems that yours does.

Have you tried driving around with MDS off? Click the shifter - then + button until 8 is displayed in the dash and the MDS will never activate. I haven't noticed this transmission issue much since I started driving with MDS off all the time.

Regarding the references to trans tunes, can you guys clarify what tuners you used and who you used for the programming? I have a Trinity but Sean at Hemifever told me the transmission settings generally don’t work on the 8-speed 2014s.

I haven't tried that yet, I didnt even know you could turn the MDS off. I'll have to give that a try. Thanks for the tip. Have you noticed a difference in fuel consumption since you turned the MDS off?

My truck has the same concern. Mine only started since the latest recall/flash. I find it is worse when cold. I will be taking in to the dealer to have it checked out.
