Just bought a 2011 Ram 2500 larami megacab. After owning nothing but GM's I decided to give one a shot, really like the new interiors. My question is what are some good performance mods for the hemi that actually work? I've heard a few things about changing out the Y-pipe along with catch cans and i'm waiting for tuners to catch up with the 2011's. Also, I would like to put a catback exhaust or at least a better muffler on the truck but I dont want to hear it in the cab (I run alot of highway miles) but I dont want to hear the damn thing in the cab all day. Any suggestions are much appreciated. I turn wrenches for a living so im no dummy to all this stuff but like with anything there is always a bunch of BS junk out there with all the good stuff. Since I run alot of Montana highway in the dark the first major addition on the way is a TDK bumper :********:

Any CAI would work fine, they pretty much do about the same so it kind of just comes down to what looks better to you. I run the Afe stage 2 and I'm happy with it. Throttle body spacer is a waste of money, don't buy it. It's just a $100 paperweight that adds a nice whistle at high rpms.

The y-pipe swap is a good idea to do, I am getting ready to do this myself finally, I'm just waiting on the pipe to arrive. Go with magnaflow part #10778

As for muffler, not wanting any loud higher I'd recommend the flowmaster 50HD, it's what I'm running, or a magnaflow of 18", 22", or 24". The 50HD and the 18" are about the same I believe on sound since they are both 18" long, it just boils down to their unique sound. They offer a good throaty sound at low speeds and when you step on it, but when cruising the highway speeds with windows up, a/c on, and music blaring...I don't hear it at all. Even without the music blaring I hardly hear it.

Other things you can do are aftermarket throttle bodies such as modern muscle or fastman. From the reviews I have read on both, they are good, they do add a good little bit of power and are worth the money. Although it doesn't free up much, getting a V6 Efan and replacing that clumsy weight they like to put on the front of the motor can free up a little bit of power. If I remember my numbers right form awhile ago, removing the cluth fan can free up 5-10 hp, so not much but every little bit counts right? And it's only 100 bucks so it's a fairly cheap mod.

Welcome and Congratulations too! Deffinatly go with a Magnaflow 20" or so you will like the sound and it frees up your exhaust good. Then maybe look towards a Diablosport Trinity(it has a MPG tune!). Those two things should make you pretty happy and give better gas milage.

Hmm I am sure Diablo will have an update for the Trinity soon. Wonder why no tunes for the 2011 yet?

Thanks guys, i'll start looking into that stuff, more power and a nice sound is always a good thing. Biggest thing right now is the bumper and im looking at 5 weeks out for TDK to get me one built and powdercoated. I'm stuck up at work here in the Alaskan arctic (where the ice road truckers go) for a couple more weeks making my spendin money so no fun for me for a while.

Welcome to the forum! Hopefully someone will crack CJD's encryption for the PCM codes.

Intake and exhaust would be a good start. If you don't want to hear the exhaust when cruising but don't mind it when you get on it, go with a 22" Magnaflow.

Does that bumper cover your headlights, and grill as well? I am from Montana too, and without my custom aftermarket bumper covering all those goodies I would have had many more repairs to do. I hope yours does the same.

Since you run a 2500, you should consider getting a CTD for a power upgrade... lol jk

Yes it does, they are built by a little company down in Moore, outside of Lewistown. The website is Throttle Down Kustoms Home and they build some very nice stuff. I have one on my 03 GMC and not only do they look fantastic they can also take a hit.

since you say you drive at night, i would suggest looking into some retro shop projectors. the light output on the stock headlights is completely horrible.

I noticed that and read a thread on here about custom projector installs. Looks like 600 bucks gets you a pretty nice setup. I'm going to try adjusting mine some and putting in better high beam bulbs for the time being. Mine has HID's but im assuming the lows are the only ones that are HID. Once it has the TDK on the front I wont have to worry so much about not seeing the deer lol. On top of that once the bumper is built it will have 4 lightforce lights in the grillguard area and two PIAA lights down in the bumper hooked to the factory foglight circuit, I just need to see if I can sweet talk the local dodge dealer into making it so I can turn on the fog circuit with the high beams on :naughty:
