Hi all,

I just got a brand new 2016 Ram 1500 Lonestar crewcab 4x2 and love it!

One little thing I've noticed is that when traveling at low speeds, mostly in traffic when the engine is hovering on the edge of gears, shifting up and down, the pedal gives me strange feedback (almost feels grindy). It gives me some vibration and doesn't feel smooth, responsive, and strong like a brand new truck would be expected to. If I really get into the throttle it revs great and feels great. It's only at low speeds that this happens. Can anyone attest to this? I have a 100k mile warranty so I'm not worried but I want to make sure this is normal. If I need to elaborate more I will, it's just difficult to describe.

Any information is greatly appreciated! I'm glad to be a part of the Ram community!

Hi welcome, I cannot say I have ever felt this, I've put a lot of miles on the 5.7 hemi, the 3.6, and the 6.7 cummins and haven't felt this in any of them

Hello and thanks for the replies!

Will send pics some time today. I am at work in the office currently.

I hope this issue isn't something that won't go away on its own with breaking in of the engine and what not. I'll be changing the oil at 1500 to full synthetic. Currently only have 150 miles on it lol. Been driving it for about a week.

Welcome! This could possibly be the brake clutches in the tranny. I notice this at slower speeds (30 MPH and under) going down any grade. Mines the 8 speed 4x4 3.21 gears, Lonestar package also. I also noticed at cruising speed (75 MPH) with cruise control on, when it down shifts transitioning to a up grade there is a very slight "clunk". Not all the time though and it doesn't present a problem for me. 5 year 100K power train for me also.

Edit: Not really any grinding or vibration, only like a "pull and tug" feeling, like having a empty trailer behind you.

Enjoy the forum, I do!

I notice that my 8 speed tranny seems to 'brake' a lot more than any other tranny I have ever had before.

Thanks guys!

So I'm not sure if I have adjustable pedals or not. I'll have to look.

Basically, it's as if the truck is upshifting too soon and the rpms are too low... so it drags until the rpms get up high enough for that gear. When I touch the gas when it's in limbo between gears, I get that grindy, vibration in the pedal / front end. It's strange...

I don't have a 8 speed but I have herd they learn your driving style and will adjust. But I think what your feeling is mds. My truck does it though my neighbourhood 20mph and less. If I turn onto my street it'll go into mds and shift about the same time and It kind of chatters a little if I tap the throttle a little extra it goes right away.

Multi-Displacement System (MDS), the engine will drop to using 4 cylinders to maintain speed under minimal load conditions for economy. Just the quick description.

Thanks for the info!

On a lighter note, the headlights on my truck are the basic, amber colored stock ones. They're awful.

Anyone have any recommendations for aftermarket headlights? Any nice ones with daytime running LED's that don't look cheesy?

You are now entering into a vast area of the Exterior section. Hold onto your hat. Really though, lots of good information. I'm keeping mine stock for the time being, I did add Lamin-x covers (clear) to protect from road debris and dulling.

lol ya these trucks are so customize-able! I love it.

I will definitely be upgrading my headlights. Not a ton of products out for 2016's yet though.

The 5/6 speeds do the same and it's taken me a while to get used to it. It almost feels like I am manualy downshifting to 1st when slowing down.. lol
