I am new here and have a question about the ignition switch.

I feel funny because it seems everybody here has 4wd.

I will start with having a 1994 Ram 2500 2wd 5.9 auto trans. The truck belongs to my son after he traded his k10 for this. The guy he got it off of aid when he bought it the owner did something to the ignition switch to keep people from stealing it.

I have breifly looked at it and it seems to no not be engaging when you try to start it. Like there is no spring in the switch or when you try to start it a rod or somethiung is missing.

Any help would be great.

Did he have a battery disconnect on it? Alot of the tow vehicles and forklifts where I work have quick battery disconnects to save battery drain. Works just as well for anti-theft.

Welcome to RF!

No disconnect. And I thought it to be funny about the "antitheft" also.

what do I expect he traded a K10 with a blown tranny for this I will post pics of the truck soon I hope. Needs major restoration!!!

Could be a diamond in the rough, but i haven't seen it. I imagine the ignition "anti theft device" is actually just a broken ignition that the guy tried pulling one over on you son. I'd replace the ignition. Its like saying the ghost key syndrome old chevy's have is a convenience feature instead of a worn out part.

hanks for all the help.

Took it apart and now will be getting the key/tumbler. Part of it was broken no "anti-theft" device installed.

Its ok the truck he got rid wouldn't even move. This one is drivable!!
